Honestly, I think taking the sales of the BD boxset as a commentary on their customers reaction to E8 is a poor idea. At best, you can state that they accept it if it's accompanied with the original series. Certainly, some of the drop between S1 and S2 may have been because they were waiting for BD. On the other hand, it was received negatively by a large portion of fans both there and abroad so I think it's reasonable to assume it was a cause for the nosedive on S2 sales after BR (which were still better than most anime). In any case, it's a moot point now since it obviously had no permanent effect. The franchise has moved beyond it.

One thing to keep in mind is this is not just the first BD boxset--it's the first Haurhi box set period. Even discounting the re-buyers, I imagine a large portion of fans of the more popular shows don't buy singles and just wait for the boxset.

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-7560.html
http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi...1168328827/973 DVD
http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi...1168328827/974 BD

Full list.

Fall Vol 1s:
Motto To Love-ru Vol. 1 does 3,956/2,832 for 6,788.

Hyakka Rouran Samurai Girls does 3,699/2,225 for 5,924. That's two reasonably strong Vol. 1's already.

Otome Youkai Zakuro does 3,368, DVD only. Not quite as good as I'd hoped... I was hoping for 5k but not having a BD release surely didn't help, especially since the manga is apparently seinen and not so much on fujoshi radar I guess, despite the bishies. Could be worse of course. Still above the mythical Manabi line.

And I guess this means I should get a Fall Vol. 1 post up. I'll probably do that tonight.

Summer updates:
Strike Witches 2 Vol. 3 does 10,883/2,810 for 13,693. Strong start again.

Kuroshitsuji II Vol. 3 starts at 7,426.

Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ Vol. 4 does 3,467/2,165 for 5,632.

Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu Vol. 2 does 1,149 BD. Ookami-san does 1,122. Shukufuku does 971. none ranked for DVD.

Spring updates:
Angel Beats!
AB! Vol 1: 40,442 (*4 wk)
AB! Vol 2: 35,483 (*4 wk)
AB! Vol 3: 33,251 (*4 wk)
AB! Vol 4: 31,782 (*4 wk)
AB! Vol 5: 30,922 (*3 wk)
AB! Vol 6: 26,401 (*1 wk)
K-ON!!
!! Vol 1: 42,433 (12 wk)
!! Vol 2: 39,247 (*9 wk)
!! Vol 3: 38,747 (*7 wk)
!! Vol 4: 38,019 (*5 wk)
!! Vol 5: 34,125 -> 37,325 (*2 wk)

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu BD Box completely [i]destroys[i] all prior TV anime BD boxset sales (and all or nearly all sets even on DVD) with 30,559 units sold. If you follow boxsets at all, then you know how crazy those numbers are. Yay to Haruhi.
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st does 58,452/22,758 LE plus 1,300/1,384 RE for 83,894. Very nice, higher than another other big movie release recently, FSN. I'll be watching this in the coming weekend, I think. Maybe even tomorrow (tonight is OreImo since I couldn't watch it last night).
Tamayura does 4,237 BDs, DVDs didn't rank.
Gundam UC Vol. 2 goes from 140,261 to 148,990.

Spring Vol. 1 | Summer Vol. 1

Darn, that pretty much shoots any chance of a second season out of the water.

Maybe they'll do a BD box at some point and make enough to finance one. Or... probably not. Although I guess if it remains to be seen if the anime will even need a second season. The manga is only 5 volumes, although it's ongoing. No idea how much of it we've covered.

If it only covers about 3 volumes, there might be enough in the near future. But if it covers 4 or even part of the 5th volume (which is possible since some of the chapters would have been out long before the tankoban came out), then it could be ~2 years before they have enough material for more. It's only at 5 volumes and the first came out back in January 2008. But usually, it seems 1 volume equals about 3-4 episodes. Maybe more if there's a lot of episodic/one chapter stories that the anime adaptation pads out into a full episode. Several of Zakuro's episodes seem liked they could have been a single chapter story... but depending on how often the magazine it runs in comes out, one chapter could be 1/4 of a volume.

... Okay, no clue how much has been covered since I can only check up to chapter 3 (which apparently wasn't animated), but it has 9 chapters per volume, each about 15-18 pages, so its a pretty normal weekly magazine length (For comparison, Negima has the same # of chapters per volume, Hayate no Gotoku has 11, ). So its probably only covering about 3 volumes of material and they would have enough material for another cour pretty quickly (assuming its not in the middle of a story arc). With the amount of time between volumes, I was thinking it was in a magazine that came out infrequently and each chapter would be 40+ pages, but that's clearly not the case. Not that it matters now, with these kinds of DVD sales. The BD set would have to sell really, really well for it to make them think a second season is worthwhile with these kinds of single disc sales. I'd happily buy it though, assuming I had the money to spare at the time.

11 series starting in the same week right before Christmas, damn.
5 DVD-only series this season. Why did one have to be Zakuro? ;_;

It probably won't rank next week because of the high DVD thresholds, but I'm guessing this will end up selling about 3,500/disc average. Depends how much it drops. I'm thinking 4k for Vol. 1 if we ever find out how it sells in the second week. Maybe one of those >100 lists will get posted for it.

I do hope that is good enough for them to think of doing more. Well, doesn't seem bad for a new original anime, at least. Glad the series has some fans.

Probably. One episode worth of runtime for ¥6,615 msrp and probably about 1k DVDs for over 5k combined? Seems easily enough to do more if they have any interest in doing so.

[Update - Link to full DVD100/BD50 list here]

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=275165

Preliminary list...

...but nothing worth commenting on really. Basara 2 Vol. 3 starts at 10,594. Nanoha 1st adds 3,851 DVDs. I guess Zakuro didn't rank this week but that's not surprising given usual thresholds.

Obviously it's BDs that will be interesting this week, with 2nd week sales for Nanoha and Haruhi and the Fall Vol. 1s.
