Interesting that OreImo DVD sales didn't crack the top 10...unless everyone just went out and bought the BD. I haven't followed the sales charts close enough...but that's the trend right? Japanese fans moving more towards BD.

Just like you...I'll wait for the Oricon charts to come out to see how some of the Fall 2010 shows did.

I believe that's the top 30, of which 10 were anime. And yeah, just look at K-ON!. It's the best selling TV series of the year by a good margin and yet it's only selling 3-4k DVDs per volume. It's a bit of an extreme example with its ~85-90% BD bias but other shows aren't far behind. I can definitely see OreImo moving, oh say... 75% its numbers in BD.

But sales are really and I mean really frontloaded these days.. new Shining Hearts on PSP for instance did 80k day 1 and ended up doing 110k for the full week.. I know that's a video game but the markets are not that different...

And people were saying Haruhi's sales were "low" due to limited time on the market but it dropped to #9 on the BR charts for this week... looks like 00 S.E did around 10k so that's 69k for both versions on BR, 95k for all formats combined, expected much more for a Gundam film. I wonder how much a SEED film would've done after Destiny.. even though it was a stinker it clearly didn't hurt the sales for it... missed opportunity by Sunrise... should've turned Lacus evil...

Still Gundam 00 might have more legs than Haruhi...

Yeah, that's why I didn't expect Shoushitsu's short selling week to have all that much of an impact. Otaku either preorder online or get in line on day one at a B&M.

Definitely not as much as I'd expect. 100k seemed like a given but I guess not.

Default New thread

New thread for 2011: http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=104945

All the weekly posts are indexed in that thread in one place. First weekly posting there will be the 12/20~12/26 BD+DVD full listing. I was trying to find a good transition point, and since the next week straddled 2010 and 2011, 12/20 Full List seemed best due to the number of new shows starting.

Continuing talk on the preliminary 12/20 list here for a day or two makes sense to me, we can transition over to the other once we have full data.

I wonder if the 00 movie might see a slightly longer tail as it has so recently been in the cinema, people might not have felt the immediate need to re-watch it.

Default Oricon accuracy

This is 2010 related so guess I'll use this thread. According to the Gundam UC 3 PR:
Quote:
“Gundam UC” is a highly-recognized anime for its sales record and remarkable quality. In Japan, Volume 1 has sold over 200 thousand units on Blu-ray and DVD and Volume 2 exceeded its sales volume instantly after its release in November 2010.
But according to the leaked numbers...
Code:
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (DVD: *69,160 BD: 105,742)
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 2 (DVD: *57,758 BD: *98,994)
Which contradicts both of those claims....
Is this an issue of shipped vs sales or are the numbers really that far off or is it all a lie?

You can use the new thread for anything going forward. That way it's all in one place. I restarted for 2011 more for convenience and having a chance to order everything together, rather than it having to be 2011 releases only.

I'm betting shipped. Haruhi BD box shipped 50k, sold about 35k, for example. Or, Oricon is not necessarily comprehensive in reporting all stories, but I doubt it's that far off.

Maybe their wording is misleading and they're also counting sales outside Japan as well, though I doubt those count in the tens of thousands.
