It looks like Fumi's not the only one with love issues, but things seem to be looking a little up for her.

What They Say

Episode 3 - “Rise and Shine”

Planning to back out of joining the basketball club, Fumi is asked out on a date by her senpai - Sugimoto. While thrown off guard and a bit flustered, she is surprisingly happy on the inside. However, Akira is invited to a mixer by her classmate Kyoko, whose fiance Sawanoi Ko, will be attending. For some reason, maybe the anticipation of meeting Ko, Akira left her home nervous and on edge. Meanwhile on that very day, Fumi and her senpai had a surprisingly quiet and pleasant time together. As the distance between them began to shorten at the library, they leaned in for their first kiss…

The Review!

(please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)

Picking up where we left off last time, we see Kyoko running out of the room, crying from her meeting with Yasuko. At that moment, Fumi happened to be passing by, but it was a fortuitous meeting, since Fumi wished to discuss something with Yasuko. While speaking outside with Yasuko, Fumi learns that she's apparently Yasuko's type. Of course, who should happen to see Fumi and Yasuko speaking but the Drama Club Trio and Akira. After spying on them a little bit, one of the Drama Club Trio goes over to interrupt the pair. Akira has an interesting expression on her face.

All along, I had been led by that rather revealing picture in the opening animation that Fumi and Akira were destined to be a couple. Of course, that may not necessarily be the case, or at least not immediately the case. Instead, it looks like Yasuko is putting the moves on Fumi. I guess she's into tall girls.

The story takes a little detour, as we see a little bit into the inner life of Kyoko. Apparently, she has a fiance, Ko, who seems to be a fairly good guy. Kyoko, however, has no interest in him (and we learn that she has been turned down by the one she truly loves). Still, she tolerates him enough to go out on a group date with him, the other girl being Akira on this occasion (we learn nothing about the guy that Ko sets up on his side). The date, Akira's debut in the dating scene, does not go entirely well, since her elder brother spies on the group and embarrasses her greatly.

Fumi has her own date to go on, as Yasuko invited her out on a date on Sunday, and Fumi is all aflutter over it. The dates goes well, so well that Yasuko invites Fumi out on another date. At school the next day, she even whisks Fumi away to the library for an intimate little chat. And perhaps more.

In Summary:

This episode was a great improvement. While Fumi still get misty-eyed, she did not have any major breakdowns or crying fits. That's a welcome change of pace. Akira's story gets more interesting as well, since she might be the target of Kyoko's affections, though one has to wonder it is genuine interest or just a rebound romance. If you like your yuri, this series will be your thing. If not, then look elsewhere.
