Wedding bells are ringing, but not everyone wants to hear their tune.

What They Say

As the new semester begins, Sugimoto and Kagami Sensei's wedding day is finally here. Akira, Kyoko and the theater members attend the ceremony. And while everyone is excited to meet the family, all Kyoko can do is look at Sugimoto. While many emotions and thoughts fill the air, the bride and groom are greeted mostly with blessing for their wedding. After the ceremony, Fumi and Akira meet up at Enoshima to hang out, but to their surprise another unexpected guest appears…

The Review!

And so the day for Kazusa Sugimoto and Mr. Kagami's wedding has come. Akira and Kyoko have been invited, and it seems that Shinobu and Ko manage to get in as well, thanks to Yasuko Sugimoto. So, everyone is there…except for Fumi, who wasn't invited. As expected, the event is a little tense for Yasuko, and to make things more amusing, it appears that her older sister Kuri was also interested in Kagami. Even though he's on the dull side. I guess that's just what the Sugimoto sisters are into. Except for Shinako, who just likes to tease her younger siblings.

After the wedding, Akira answers Fumi's call (Fumi called while the ceremony was on, so Akira could not answer), and they arrange to meet in Enoshima. Fumi waits patiently, but when Akira arrives, there's a little surprise in store, since not only did Shinobu, her older brother, come along, but also Yasuko, who overheard Akira's phone call. Of course, this leads to a somewhat complicated situation, as Fumi is still rather angry with Yasuko.

And so, we have a Yasuko flashback where we learn quite a bit about her past. How she came to be how she is now. This is all to set up the final confrontation between Fumi and Yasuko of course. No, there aren't fireworks or histrionics. This is Aoihana, after all. What there is instead is a brief, but rather grown up exchange. If one party was still looking for final closure, the other has made it clear and certain what that is.

One more to go.

In Summary:

It's Kasuza Sugimoto and Mr. Kagami's wedding day, but the focus hardly seems to be on them. The spotlight is instead turned more strongly on Yasuko Sugimoto, Fumi and Akira. It seems that one party to the break up that occurred a few episodes back hasn't quite put a full stop on event, while another has clearly moved on. So, how does it end? At least with Aoihana, you know you can expect a more mature treatment of the subject, free of the wild theatrics that often accompany events of this sort. That is one of the better qualities of this show, and makes it worth viewing.
