Why not make a movie that actually follows the plot of Arabian Nights as opposed to the latest Hollywood dipsh*t's wet dream?

Another classic will be flying its way into the new trendy 3D medium, this time on a magic carpet. Variety reports that Chuck Russell is set to direct a 3D reworking of Arabian Nights, based on a script he co-wrote with Barry P. Ambrose.
The action adventure will reportedly tout an estimated budget of $70 million, and will be financed by Inferno Entertainment. Producers are Inferno's Bill Johnson, Mayhem Pictures' Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray, as well as Roar's Will Ward, who manages Russell. Production is slated to begin in April.
"Through the use of a new generation of visual technologies, we will be able to quite literally take audiences around the world on a magic carpet ride," Russell said.
Plot Concept: In a new spin on the classic, the story follows a young commander who, after his king is killed in a palace coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Aladdin and his genie to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers.

Addendum... I don't think I would care as much if they changed the name... maybe New Arabian Nights or something so the average person wouldn't think this is actually a movie version of the classic Arabian Nights.
This to me sounds like let's make a new King Arthur movie where the Knights of the Round Table team up with Robin Hood and his Merry Men to save Hansel & Gretel from the evil clutches of the Morgan Le Fey and her Gingerbread kingdom who's armies are lead by the General of Nottingham.
This sounds fun to me. I don't mind the reworking of the story. How many other classic fairy tales and legends have been re-worked for different movie ideas. Shrek, Sinbad, Hercules, Clash of the Titans (both of them), even Frankenstein and Dracula get "re-imagined" in every new venture since they are public domain.
My only thought is I hope they have an ethnically appropriate cast for it. Meaning that alot of the major cast members should at least look Middle Eastern. Prince of Persia looks fantastic but it still kind of looks strange seeing Jake Gyllenhall in the title role.
I also would love to see a great genie story. I loved an Arabian Nights mini-series of about ten years ago that had Jason Scott Lee as Aladdin and John Leguizamo as a fantastic genie.
I loved Arabian Nights as a kid, the last time I saw it though it didn't hold that magic to me like the Sinbad movies do so I'm ok with them reworking the story. But I agree with goldeneyez, if it isn't a remake why use the same title
Anyway I'm all for this and in 3D to boot, hell effing yeah. Now hopefully once Clash of the Titans kicks ass somebody will decide to do a proper Sinbad movie

LOL...I definitely see your point, goldeneyez...I might give it a shot because I've been waiting for a big budget live action Sinbad movie for a while...say what you want the originals, but I love any movies that Harryhausen worked on. They have a certain charm to them.
You don't know what we can find. Why don't you come with me, little girl, on a magic carpet ride.
So this is 1 a chance for them to put the audience on a magic carpet rollercoaster ride in 3D. 2 the next Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. After Prince of Persia. At least that’s the vibe I take from this.
