I respect your opinion but I don't agree with it. I found this movie to be very funny and quite entertaining. Old hollywood humor and shtick does a lot for me. I actually prefer it to new hollywood humor and shtick. I'll take Abbott and Costello or the Marx Bros. over Ferrell and Galifianakis or Downey Jr. and Law every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Nice to see the underrated Halloween 4 get a Blu Ray release. Glad you recommended. Liked it better than Halloween H20 in which Jamie Lee Curtis is stuck with her uninteresting costars.
I always enjoy many of the movies Abbott an Costello made , this one was my favorite . I loved this movie because it had all the famous monters , such as Frankenstein , Dracula , Wolfman all in one movie ! . Though when Hollywood makes fun of its best team of Monsters , its the nail in the coffin , or stake ! As a kid I bought a 8MM of the film off a Monster manazine . an in high school bought in as a "English project " and got a C .And yes compared to todays grossed out comadys it was quite funny , and would say its a rather good movie .
Wow double...a bit harsh there. I don't think one has to be familiar with Abbott and Costello's history to given an opinion of this film. As to why the monster doesn't talk...that goes back to one of the previous films of the 1940s...I think it may have been Ghost of Frankenstein...anyway there was more hooey with the swapping of brains that left the monster mute. As to why it was "meet frankestein" rather than meet Dracula...well...that's a simple matter of Frankenstein being a bigger draw than Dracula. While Dracula appeared in several universal horrors, Frankenstein's monster appeared in more and more bearing his name in the title. Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost..., Frankenstein Meets the wolfman, House of Frankenstein, and of course A&C meet Frankenstein. The monster also appeared in House of Dracula. A&C did Meet Boris karloff in 1949's A&C meet the Killer, Boris Karloff.
I agree with Double that Lugosi became a much bigger Icon in death but so did karloff, Chaney jr., etc...lets not forget that Horror films were looked down at as about the lowest form of film entertainment back in the 30s and 40s. Universal was NOT nearly on the same par as say Paramount, MGM, or Warner Bros. studios. It was only after Universal had success with horrors that the other studios started making them. This is why James Whale nearly killed Karloff while filming Frankenstein by making him carry colin clives body up the stairs in the windmill over and over again. Some say it was Whale getting back at karloff for his objecting to the scene in which the monster throws the little girl in th lake. Anyway, Whale would not have gotten away with that at Warner Bros with Jack Warner ot at MGM with Louie Mayer or Irving Thalgerg.
Like Lugosi, karloff ended up doing Poverty row films even after the success of Frankenstein, Bride, the mummy, etc...These men became icons largely due to the efforts of Forrest Ackerman and Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine.
I've never been a big fan of Abbot and Costello though I will agree that they are funnier than many of our current comics. Their "Who's on first" routine is a classic for a reason.

I've only seen a few of the Abbot and Costello films, but their Universal Monsters films are the best IMO. I also recommend seeing their adventure with The Invisible Man...I found it to be quite entertaining!
I'm sorry, Robert, but I'm gonna have to be hard on you here. This review makes you look shallow and frankly just a little bit ignorant. Karloff had stopped playing the Monster YEARS before this movie was released. This was Glenn Strange's THIRD appearence as the Monster. Lugosi was never in his lifetime the icon he is now and when this was made he was in his mid-60's and considered to be a drugged out, washed up has-been. He got second billing because A&C as well as Chaney were bigger names. And your statements about the 3 Stooges and the Marx Brothers speak loudly for themselves.
It is obvious from this review that you know next to nothing about these literally iconic films that are the foundations of the genres we here at Mania love. I know there are reviewers here who do understand them and appreciate them. Let them handle these from here on in and save yourself more embarassment.
