Arnett Replaced by Val Kilmer for K.I.T.T

A carmaker conflict has caused NBC to hire Val Kilmer to replace Will Arnett as the voice of KITT on its "Knight Rider" revision, reports Variety. Arnett ("Arrested Development") had already completed his part for the pilot, which is slated to debut on NBC on Sunday, February 17 at 9/8c. Producers Doug Liman, Dave Bartis and Dave Andron -- along with the network and studio -- were all fine with his performance.

For the better part of a decade, however, Arnett has done voice-over work for General Motors -- as the voice of GMC Trucks. NBC's new "Knight," however, is "played" by a Ford Mustang.

Not surprisingly, when GM found out about the Ford connection, it asked Arnett to pull out.

"I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new 'Knight Rider' movie," Arnett said. "However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project."

Man, Val Kilmer is really going places these days.

On a side note, though I jest, he is a good actor when it comes to him (The Doors, Salton Sea) but he makes a lot of bad decisiions or simply can't get work, I don't know. Maybe his days are done.

They should just use the original voice back in the 80's. They could make it work story wise. I like Val but this is beneath him.

Why even use a actor to voice KITT, just use a real computer voice. I was amazed that on Vista you can set up your computer to read e-mails and text and the voice is lifelike, not abrupt like the Lost in Space robot's voice.

C'mon, that really bites GM. If this story was released who the hell would have noticed? I never noticed the voice before. I was surprised that Will was doing it. But to give up this opportunity to be a part of something iconic because of a perceived conflict is ridiculous.

the use of a Ford for this role is bad enough but that poor choice might possibly be lessened now if we can hear KITT sing "how silly can you get" just one time.

heck, that could be this show's theme song.

I want to hear KITT say "I'm your huckleberry!" or "You! You're still dangerous... but you can be my wingman any time!"

I thought Arnett as KITT was the only good thing this show had going for it. Now there is ABSOLUTELY no need for me to watch it.

I love Val Kilmer,,,,,Top Secret and Real Genius are two of the funniest movies ever made... It is kind of a shame Val has been reduced to playing secondary or minor characters in movies lately, although Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang,,,he was awesome in it.....I hope they let him do some one-liners, as Val is very good at a sarcastic delivery.....and I think Skeet Surfing would be a much better song for the theme....or Straighten The Rug.

I don't think this will affect the show one way or the other. Either people are jacked about the show and this will be good news, or people will dismiss this as another lousy remake and this will be another source of derision.
