Arnold Returning to TERMINATOR SALVATION Trilogy

That's what producer Moritz Borman has hinted at in the latest issue of Empire Magazine. The producer opened the doors officially on Arnold popping up in the two subsequent sequels after TERMINATOR SALVATION:THE FUTURE BEGINS. Borman also explained that the ending for the first film in this new trilogy will be held under "under very tight security" by the creators with not even the crew knowing the final 6 or 7 pages of the script, the reason being "we have a huge twist at the end, which we're being careful not to reveal. Like with the last 'Terminator' — we kept that under tight wraps so not even the crew got the last six or seven pages."

"I can tell you this much — this is the story everybody has been waiting for," he added. "Namely, we're in the future. The part of it where Arnold's character has not yet been built but is on the drawing board.

"And in the next two episodes we'll get to the point where time-travel is more in the foreground. It's the war against the machines, the start of Skynet taking over the world."

"It's convenient that he hasn't been built at this point of the story, as Arnold has more important things to do right now, but that doesn't mean he might not re-appear later in the trilogy," he said.

"He knows the material and is very supportive of what we're doing. There might even be hints of his character in this one."

Production is set to begin April 15 in Budapest for a summer 2009 release.

OMG, if they used my idea, I'm gonna crap my pants. Arnold should be part of the cliffhanger for the first 1, and you see the original arnie and kyle sent in the beginning of the 2nd, the TX sent at the end of that one, and then you see the T2 bots sent in the 3rd at the end of the war...that'd be SWEET! Here's hoping they do everything else I mentioned on this site too ^_^

skyn3t,

'and you see the original arnie and kyle sent in the beginning of the 2nd'

Sorry to tell you this, that is not your idea. Read the T2 series by S.M. Stirling, at the end of "T2: The Future War" we see the original T800 get sent back, then Kyle right after it, then the T1000 sent back, and then the T800 again.

I'm excited for this movie and I've been an Arnold fan since I can remember. But I don't need to see him in any of these movies, maybe a glimpse of a blueprint or an old shot of him. Otherwise keep him out. He's too old, not as muscular and just won't look the part IMHO.
As for this "huge twist", one way to spoil it is by letting people know its coming. The best part of a "twist" is the surprise of it. Now the speculation won't end and just knowing it's coming will soften the surprise if not outright ruin it.
I had a dream about a robot from the future that came to kill me. Can I claim the Terminator as my idea? Maybe I have a lawsuit in my hands.

I know the twist! The main character is a robot!

And maybe they should only worry about one movie at a time, this could easily bomb.

This is really starting to piss me off. These various news updates and casting plans for this new Terminator trilogy all sound awesome, and I would be weeping in anticipation to see this kick-ass film, except for one massive crippling move by the producers: hiring McG to direct.

Why oh why oh why oh WHY can't they hire a more competant director??? They're obviously not going to spare any dime on special effects, actors, sets, and other production design, so why not get a top-tier director as well? Ridley Scott would be my first choice, but I realize he's got far too many projects in the mix to make this movie. I personally think Frank Darabont would be an amazing director for this film. The Mist was his first movie that relied on a significant amount of CGI, but he understands it's characters first in a film, and not explosions and battles. He would make us care about the new central character in this trilogy, and certainly put John Connor front and center when the time comes. And even if Darabont passed on the chance, I could think of at least a dozen other directors I'd rather see make this than McG. I suppose I will wait until some sort of footage is available or a teaser trailer is released, but I feel like they've got a trilogy on their hands to hold up to the original Star Wars Trilogy here. I just want the right director to make this movie.

The twist: Kyle is a replicant and Deckard will be sent back to marry him.

mlauzon,

Maybe you should go back to reading books, because you're not good at reading anything else. You know anything authors write for movies are pure fanfiction and seldom canon. Ask the geeks who were disappointed with Star Wars. There were several books out there written to tie the events of T2 and Judgement Day and T3 came along and made it irrelevant.

I said that in the THIRD movie we get the T-1000 and the 2nd T-800. As a homage to the best Terminator movie of them all, it'd be best for John to reunite with his old buddy at the end of the war, and at the END of the series. It'd provide a major twist in the series, add the drama needed at the end of the 6th movie, and make more sense to the timeline of the mythos, because I'm sorry, the TX WASN'T as advanced as the T-1000.

So go back into your cave, Toolbag.

Questions: Can the "powers that be" control continuity problems between new films, previous movies and this new TV show? What about the 12 min. "TERMINATOR 2: 3-D" theme park show? Does that figure into the mix? How many actors can we have play John *sarcasm* Connor? Ed Furlong ain't the best, but he was first. Does anyone think he should be utilized? What about special effects, can you convincingly place a "young" Biehn and Schwarzenegger in the movie and not have it look cheesy or contrived? Barring the "time loop" issue, can you keep "fan boys" from obliterating these movies?
