Gaiman is like Singer in the sense his named gets attached to all these projects but he doesn't pick one and get rolling with it.

yeah superman starting to sound like smallville -the movie, enough already, make superman like he should be,also no routh please i like him but really doesnt have the size,i mean you guys are saying   hemsworth & evans need to bulk up but what about whoever plays supes ,i mean this is superMAN not superboy

redhairs99 10/18/2010 2:41:55 PM

Who's saying Hemsworth needs to bulk up?  Have you seen the trailers/footage released from Thor?  Dude got HUGE!

swisshammer 10/18/2010 2:56:35 PM

I have to agree with Krath and others who are afraid this Superman is going to suck. Why do yet ANOTHER origin story?!?! I know that it would be difficult to reboot the character and franchise without one, but everyone is tired of rebooting Superman. We all know the story, just make a damn movie where Supes can slug some big baddie!

Redhairs: If that's true about Routh, then I'm happy. I thought that he was great as Superman/Clark Kent and I'd rather not see them go with another actor.

I like the lantern; I think it looks like what the filmmakers have been saying about the movie. Why have a lantern that looks like a human-designed lantern? As long as the filmmakers don't take too many liberties with the story and look, I'm ok with them putting their stamp on it.

Regarding Superman.  I am worried that this is going to be 'Smallville the Movie'.  A long incredibly boring anxed fest meant to appeal only to 14 year olds.

Besides Hemsworth... Evens has bulked up as well did you see Scott Pilgrim?  His body mass has exploded.

I think some the hate being leveled at the new Kal-El flick is unwarranted, particularly in regard to it being an origin movie.

First off, the only real origin movie was the first Donner movie, which is now thoroughly dated and cheeze-mo--this coming from a nearly 30-year-old male who still gets teary-eyed whenever I see the helicoper scene. Returns doesn't count as an origin movie, although I think a lot of people lump it in there because of the shared history.

Smallville? There are legions of Superman fans, like myself, who don't give two flying shits about Smallville, because it's so sporadic in quality and mostly a snoozefest of bad TV writing & acting. Then there are the non-fan types, people like my mom, who still will go see a Superman movie regardless of how big the good-looking dude playing Clark is (or perhaps because of how big...hmm. Don't want to think about my mom in that context.)

So forget about Smallville, a lot of people don't even know it exists but will watch a Superman movie in the theater. That's what matters here, not the comics, not Singer's slavish and weak outing. Again, people like my mother and girlfriend and her daughter and my boss who don't give a fuck about comic books. Let's not kid ourselves. There's a reason TDK made as much money as it did: it was made for the masses.

And the MASSES haven't seen a modern Superman on the big screen yet. That's who this movie is for. So people should be very happy that we at least have one guy on the inside--Snyder--who will try to go to bat for us. Would 'Superman Begins' really be THAT bad of concept? Clark's reasons for becoming Superman haven't been done in the cinema. Sure, there's a montage and a couple lines by Pa Kent about him being 'sent here for a reason' in the Donner flick. But nobody's done with Superman what Nolan did with Bats: give him a solid, believable reason for doing what he does. I can't really get down with the Nolanverse, but I give the guy credit, in that he sold the idea to people really well.

Bruce became something by going through a series of life-changing events and by making decisions. We haven't seen Clark do that. We've seen him show up on Earth as a nekkid baby, running around Smallville moping (very emo, I might add, well before Singer's movie), a few montages and BOOM he's off in the tights.

They could do something really special with the idea of Clark seeing the world's pain firsthand. Wanting to fix it all and believing that maybe he actually could.

I can't emphasize enough that I think a shitton of people who love Superman, a lot of them because of the Donner movies, wouldn't give Smallville the time of day. So complaining about that is, to paraphrase Dan Turpin, like trying to beat the ocean unconscious.
