Am I the only person that noticed the easter egg referencing The Flash's origin?

BoldlyNoted 10/31/2013 6:32:30 PM

Particle Accelerator! And I've heard them reference S.T.A.R. Labs in an earlier episode.. on the news during a tv broadcast in episode 1 I think?

moonsunne 11/1/2013 6:54:49 AM

i saw that too on the TV in Ollie's Office

Eldogg42 11/1/2013 8:07:07 AM

Huh? What I miss?  I'm more of a Marvel guy, so i'm not 100% on catching all the easter eggs.  I saw the Star Labs thing but missed the reference to a Flash Orgin.  Is a Particle Accelerator what gave Flash his powers? I thought it was chemicles and a lighting bolt.  Either way, i'm digging this show alot so far.  Finally DC is doing something right.  Now if they are smart, they will use THIS Arrow as the Green Arrow for a Justice League movie.  By the time they are ready for that movie, this Ollie will have cemented himself as the true Arrow.  No need to make up another one.  But then, they would also now have to commit to the actor playing the Flash in this series also.

This was an excellent episode! I am not up on alot of stuff in the DC books for instance Brother Blood or Black Canary's sidekick/friend. I pretty much just know the basics, so all the twists and turns in this episode were great fun. You are correct that the series hasn't really embraced much from its comic book roots. I always call the show Dark Knight Lite in that it has always been more interested in doing a TV imitation of those hit movies than actually doing the GA comic mythos. This episode really seems to change that.

I haven't googled it yet but I'm assuming the actress playing Black Canary isn't the same one who played Sara Lance in the first season's flashback. I recall she was brunette. We see in this episode she was always blonde even in the shipwreck. I also can't remember if this is the same secret identity she has in the comics.

Yeah, wait, what'd I miss?  I'm more Marvel than DC, but it was my understanding that Barry Allen and Wally West both got their powers from being hit by lightning during lab experiments.  What does that have to do with S.T.A.R. labs and a particle accelerator?

CaptAmerica04 11/1/2013 1:06:20 PM

Monkeyfoot, I do know that in the comics, LAUREL Lance is Black Canary, not Sara Lance.  I'm guessing/hoping that they will eventually kill off Sara Lance for good and then her sister will take up her mantle as Black Canary.

Well technically the original Black Canary was Dinah Lance who is Laurel's mother in the show who we saw in the first season.  However after Crisis Dinah "Laurel" Lance was the new black Canary and her mother was Dinah Drake Lance...DC for ya...adding confusion when none is needed.

Yes in the comics both Barry Allen and Wally West got their powers the same way

Good call, monkeyfoot. In the Pilot, she was played by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (a brunette). Actually, CaptAmerica04, I believe in the comics, Black Canary is played by DINAH Lance (the Lance girls' mother, on the show). I assume also that once Sara is killed, Laurel (whose middle name is Dinah, I believe) will take up the mantle as Black Canary.

I missed the particle accelerator reference, too. The lightning/chemicals origin is the only one I am familiar with as well. Like Eldogg42, I'm more of a Marvel guy.
