I disagree. I thought it was a strong show. Sure John Crichton was going to turn out to be bad, but that wasn't the point of the episode. It was just a means to enhance the relationship between Diggle and Oliver. The stuff with Tommy didn't bother me. I still think they are setting him up to turn on Oliver, but this episode made me question that. And it wasn't too soap operaish this week.
As for his sister, well, I really don't care for her at this point, but again, it will depend on what the writers are setting up for the character in the future. So I'm willing to see how that goes.
Okay, so we knew what was going to happen to Gaynor, but I did not see the reveal at the end of the episode coming. A- from me.

Am I wrong in wanting (seriously wanting) Oliver's family to be killed off? I just wish his sister would die off already...please. Also I get that live action versions of comic book characters mostly get stripped of their comic book identities but the whole Green Arrow winds up killing everybody and NOT calling him Green Arrow is getting really old. Other then the lethality of it, the Arrow portion of the story was basically not bad.
