The Top 5 Shows That Deserve to Succeed (Article) - 5/4/2011 6:06:24 AM

Nikita is the one I watch out of this lot (also Dr Who and Game of Thrones), so here's hoping.

Despite a different style, I thought I, Robot did some pretty interesting things with Asimov's Laws of Robotics, which justified the adaptation (mostly).

One that annoys me is Hearts in Atlantis, based on the Stephen King collection of novellas. It's looks like a faithful adaptation (albeit of the wrong story), but manages to screw up the ending to take away the point of the original.

The Time Is Now (Part 2), which concludes S2 of Millennium, is my vote.

I too thought The Stand mini was pretty good. And it will look like a masterpiece in comparison to The Tommyknockers (only good for some funky alien design) and The Langoliers (which might be good if it was half the length).

I don't think there's any evidence that people pay to attend Hogwarts. They probably make their profit on insurance payouts for Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers.

Hogwarts has house elves for support staff. Before SPEW, anyway.

Hopefully that's enough pedantry for one day.

10 Little Known Fantasy Films (Article) - 3/2/2011 4:38:11 PM

I second Zathras in recommending the Navigator. It's not a traditional fantasy (it's about medieval monks who end up in the modern day), but is excellent.

Dragonslayer had the best dragon on film for a long time after it was released, as well.

10 Genre Films Your Girlfriend Likes (Article) - 2/13/2011 3:14:33 PM

My girlfriend likes all those, except for Pirates of the Carribean and Ghost. Actually, she refuses to see Texas Chainsaw, but only because she loves the original. (She also prefers the original Ring, but the remake wasn't bad.)
