Perhaps, it's my Carpenter fanboyism talking here but they should slap on a "Based on The Thing" credit somewhere in the intro.

Of course, I haven't seen the finished product...it could be something utterly different. Still, that plot line sounds...*walks away*

They must think we are really, really stupid.

Jarrod my thoughts exactly.

I was still hoping that someone (preferably Carpenter) would make a sequel to the Thing. I think Russell and David couls still come back for a sequel. Of course that hope dissipates more every passing day.

I agree Wiseguy, I have been wanted a sequel for The Thing for a long time. They can base it on the game that came out. It was a good plot and took right off from the first one. In the sequel a rescue team goes out to find out what happen to them and encounter the Alien. As for this movie I am not going to say it sounds like The Thing because the parasite being trapped in ice. Now if the parasite comes out and mimics the other people and they become some mutated creatures then maybe. This has my interest up so I will follow up with this.

I'm not sure why, but a KILLER PARASITE just doesn't sound scary to me. Here's hoping I'm wrong, but I'm picturing belly aches and diarrhea.

Short term memory you all have.

Carpenters "The Thing" was based on the 1951 "The Thing From Another World"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044121/

So it's not like he had an original idea. Don't get me wrong I loved the 1982 version, but let's not go overboard with the Carpenter fanboyism.

first off let me say i loved both versions of the thing. In my mind they are two completly different movies like night and day. So i dont consider the 1982 version a ripoff remake like hollywood seems to love these days.

Next i would love to see a sequel to the thing by carpenter "also a sequel to Big Trouble little china would be great" however i dont think Russell oe David should come back because in my mind they died at the end of the movie, what they could do is have a new cast come into the destroyed base and one of them gets infected that would be cool.

Finally i agree that this movie sounds like a ripoff of the thing but ill probally end up seeing it just like you all will too. Hopefully it will be a good ripoff:)

For the record John Carpenter’s The Thing is more a more faithful adaptation of John Campbell’s short story Who Goes There than a remake of the 1951 The Thing From Another World:

Personally I like my Thing remakes better when they’re called The X-files.

hell no, sounds an awful like The Thing.
If this film gets made I won't go see it.
Stop the insanity for crying out loud.
Too many remakes, way too much time. Nothings original anymore.
