SDCC: Sam Raimi Ready For EVIL DEAD 4 - Jul 27, 2008 - 12:07am
Sam's always maintain there will be a fourth instalment in the franchise (that's the reason there will be no Ash in the remake, Sam's got plans for the Ash character)but keeps getting side tracked with other projects, I hope he finally makes this his priority cause I've been waiting 15 years for for this movie to be made and I finally want to see this thing get done.

Darren Aronofsky Leading ROBOCOP - Jul 25, 2008 - 06:27pm
A new Robocop move that's NOT a remake AND directed by Darren Aronofsky, I can really get behind that. If they bring back Peter Weller and keep this canon I can see myself getting really psyched for this project.

Two New Clips for X-FILES 2 - Jun 25, 2008 - 11:08pm
I'm so psyched the X-Files is back. July 25 can't come soon enough.

5 Almost-Great Sci-Fi Films Worth a Second Look - May 15, 2008 - 06:19pm
Good list, I'm a fan of all these films with the exception of "Runaway" witch I never got around to seeing, but will now make an effort to seek it out.

Broadbent is Horace Slughorn in HBP - Sep 17, 2007 - 04:35pm
Damn. No disrespect to Broadbent but I was really hoping they'd get Bob Hoskins for the role, he's who I pictured in my head while I read the book and I can think of no one more fitting for the role. I'd like second the above posts suggestion of spiting the next 2 films into 4 movies. I'm surprised that the powers that be aren't seriously considering this now that the end of the franchise is in sight. After only 5 movies this this has already become the highest grossing movie franchise in history, you'd think the studio would want to keep this thing going for as long as they possibly can.

SEVERANCE - May 25, 2007 - 02:57am
I fucking loved this movie, I was thinking of writing a review on it a long time ago but didn't cause it wasn't available on region 1 DVD. If you liked "Shaun Of The Dead", "The Office", or British comedies in general, give it a try, its amazing. A+ in my book.

LOST: Through the Looking Glass - May 24, 2007 - 07:29pm
Loved this episode, hands down my favorite of the season. I seem to be in the minority, but looked at this episode as not being a flash forward but instead taking place around now and the island part of the story being the flash back. A lot of people argue that can't be the case cause Jack wasn't with Charlie in the looking glass or on the beach with the 3 shooters and that doesn't really fit into the way the flash backs are traditionally done. Thats a lagitamit point and those people may be right, but the show has been doing some of the flash backs a little different lately, and I look at this episode as being about Jack being messed up in the here and now and flashing back to the events that led up to being rescued, witch end up being the biggest mistake of his life. I feel that if he regreted leaving the island so bad he would be looking back on all the events that ultamatly led to rescue. He wasn't with Charlie true, but Desmond would have filled him in later, and we saw Hurley telling him about the stuff that transpiered at the beach. Another argument against the island part of the story being the flash back is that in the present Jack's dad's alive. I don't buy that cause we never actually saw him and throughout the episode Jack was just a mess on drugs and alcohol, I think the dad references were mainly put there by the writers to make the twist at the end a surprise. I may be wrong but thats just my take. If I'm right, I myself would love to see this as the format for next season, every episode would feature a character and show you where they are now and have flash backs to the island showing bit by bit how they got off the island. If the show took that route I think we'd probaly see all the characters in a similar state of depression as Jack. I've sometimes wondered why some of these people would want to leave the island and go back to the real world at all. I can't speak for the nameless losties in the back ground but all the main Losties have sad and tragic stories, and life on the island - as bad as it can be at times - is some what of an improvement. Look at the main characters. Jack. In the real world a guy with a dead father, and an ex- wife. nothing really in his life but his work at the hospital. On the island he's the chosen leader, a respected and powerful man looked to in times of trouble. Charlie. In the real world a drug addicted, washed up rock star. On the island he's clean, met Claire and loves her child as if it were his own. Locke. In the real world he's a nothing, a guy who's father has taken advantage of him several times and ultimately put him in a wheelchair. On the island he can walk again, he's a great hunter and tracker and has a spiritual understanding of the island that the other Losties don't have yet. Kate. In the real world she murdered her father, is on the run from the law and despised by her own mother. On the island she doesn't have to run any more, she's a leader and has a romance going with sawyer. And Jack too kind of. I'm not going to go through every character but if you think about it, for every one of them theres a reason why life on the island is better then in the real world. I may be dead wrong about all this, its just the way I see it so please reframe from going in to attack mode

Alfred Hitchcock, a True Legend - May 24, 2007 - 02:14am
I don't think I've ever seen a Hitchcock film I didn't like. I don't think I can pick one of his film's a my favorite but I can come up with my top 3 in no particular order. "The Birds". This was the first Hitchcock film I ever saw. I saw it when I was a little kid in a hotel room while on vacation with my family, so the memory of the film is strong. "Dial M for murder". Love Ray Milland's charming performance as the villian. He's trying to kill Grace Kelly (something unforgivable in my book) and you still can't help but like the guy. "Rope" Love the concept of trying to film the entire movie in one continuous shot and how Hitch cleverly masked the cuts when they needed to be made..

SUSPIRIA Remake in Early Stages - May 18, 2007 - 01:23pm
Great, another classic gets the remake treatment. Oh well, at least it's being made in Italy and not the states. That means it has half a chance of not completely sucking since the only good horror movies being made these days are coming out of the UK, Europe and Asia. Though, this probably will suck, I don't like the producers statement about their vision for the move, particularly the part about encompassing video games in to the film. Makes me shudder and think of "House Of The Dead".

A Look at Johnny Depp - May 14, 2007 - 01:24pm
I have to agree with the above posts, you misread the opening of the article Jorson and went on a the warpath for something that was just meant as a good natured joke. I'm someone who looks forward to Jarrod's Star Spotlight and usually posts, but I was busy as hell last week - part of witch was catching "Spider-Man 3" - and didn't even get a chance to read last weeks article so I found the opening to this weeks article pretty funny. As for your complaints Jorson, you have realize this is not a site for film buffs its a site for genre fans, most of whom wouldn't know who DW Griffith and John Ford are, or much less care. They're more interested in getting info on the up coming "transformers" movie or other genre pictures then learning about movie legends of days past. As for complaining about no classic directors being profiled and too many 70's directors being profiled, I have two points to make. 1) If you're as big a movie buff as you claim then you would realize that the late 60's and 70's were arguably the most creative periods of Hollywood's history. Granted, the directors of the 70's wouldn't of been what they were if it wasn't for the greats that came before them like James Whale, Billy Wilder, Cecil B DeMille and countless others, but the fact remains that many view the 70's as the period when the best movies ever made were filmed. So that's why most film buffs choose to focus mainly on that era. 2) I guess you missed the article a few weeks back on the the late and great Director Robert Wise who started his impressive career in the 40's and kept filming up till the 80's. I personally think Jarrod does a good job of balancing articles of high profile stars and more obscure ones. You'll get an article one week on George Lucas or Sam Raimi, directors every one on this site knows, and there'll be like 20 + posts. Anther week you'll get Dario Argento or Robert Wise and they'll only be a hand full of posts from the film buffs. Anyway, in the end it's Jarrod that's writing the article so he's gonna write about people that he himself is a fan of, and if that happens to be mostly 70's directors and cult favorite actors then thats to bad for people that don't like it. As for Johnny Depp I'm a big fan of his as an actor and as a person (he seems very down to earth). I'm happy for him for his resent success but at the same time feel a little riped off that now he's everyones favorite actor. Johnny's an actor who has been consistently turning out brilliant performances for his entire career but has always flown under the radar of mainstream supper stardom. Though he wasn't in the general publics mind, for us movie buffs it was always interesting to catch his most resent flick and see his latest performance. I'm not a big fan of actors but Johnny keeps impressing me, he really is something to watch, my favorite performance of his has to be a tie between Hunter S. Thompson and Edward D. Wood Jr. both outstanding performances in two great films. I'd also like to see Johnny give directing another shot, "The Brave" was a pretty good little flick with another killer performance from Johnny as well.

PIRATES to Open A Littler Earlier - May 08, 2007 - 03:32pm
I don't think Pirates can beat "Spide-Man 3", even with the fact it has the advantage of opening when schools out. I'm not a big fan of these movies (not a fan of popcorn films) but I know a lot of people that loved the first film and they all were pretty let down by the second picture. The general complaints being that it "wasn't as good as the first one", More of the same", and the biggest complaint "Way too long". I think a lot of the people that helped make the second movie a billion dollar film but felt let down and fatigued by the long running time are not going to be lining up to see the new one, especially considering it's 20 minutes longer then the last one. I also think a lot of people are going to be surprised at how well the new "Harry Potter" film will do. I think it will make huge money and maybe end the summer in the number 2 spot and here are some reasons why. Three of the films from the franchise are in the top 10 of the biggest money making movies of all time. The highly anticipated final book comes out this summer. Every time one of these films comes out there are new adult fans who finally decided to read the books that weren't fans of the series before. And finally the release date, all but one of the previous movies were released in the fall, this chapter will have the advantage of being released while school is out.

Palahniuk's CHOKE Finally Moves Ahead - May 05, 2007 - 04:34am
Palahniuk is one of my favorite modern day writers, his style is is so different, fast paced and off the wall. I'm kind of disappointed that David Fincher isn't directing this cause he really knows how to transfer the feel of Palahniuk's books to the big screen.

Ridley Scott to direct "Nottingham" - Apr 30, 2007 - 09:19am
I agree with wessmith, I like the sound of this project and am happy to hear Scott with be directing.

Much Ado About Nothing, Maniacs! - Apr 29, 2007 - 05:06pm
I've been obsessed with cinema my entire life, so I know exactly where you're coming from when you talk about the "Eastwood Effect". I could write pages about directors that I think are important and a few more pages about young directors out there right now that I like and will one day probably be considered legends. But what you want to hear about are peoples personal opinions on who are the elite directors/ actors/ composers/ writers, the cream of the crop. My personal all time favorites are as follows. Stanley Kubrick Akira Kurosawa Sergio Leone Sam Raimi James Cameron Dario Argento George A. Romero Quentin Tarantino Roman polanski Mario Bava Terry Gillian There are lots actors whose work I respect and enjoy but for me the directing aspect is much more interesting then the acting part. With the exception of Bruce Campbell, no actor thrills or excites me the way a good director does.

David Goyer will direct "Magneto" - Apr 27, 2007 - 12:16pm
I too I'm not overly psyched to see a Magneto movie, the studios need to learn that just cause a movie is based on a comic doesn't guaranty box office gold. I think they'll lean that soon enough with the arrival of "Magneto", "The Flash", and in particular "Wonder Woman". Some characters don't have a big enough following to warrant a film and others like Wonder Woman - Though well known - are dated and irrelevant to the general modern movie audience. As for Goyer I really like him as a writer, not just for good comic screen plays but for screen plays to great movies like "Dark City". I'm not really into him as a director - I fucking hated Blade trinity, but that was more for the story than the directing. He really fucked up what was my favorite franchise from all fronts, seriously, the last thing Blade needed was his own "Scooby gang". Oh well, he's written some decent stuff lately though.

Bardem and Bellucci join "The Un-Dead"? - Apr 26, 2007 - 02:40am
I love vampire movies, but Dracula movies are another story. Do we really need yet another take on the Dracula legend? There have been SO many Dracula movies since the original "Nosferatu" and I don't see the point of another, even if it takes place 25 years after the original novel. The Dracula story has been done to death.

Dunst talking about "Spider-Man 4" again - Apr 25, 2007 - 02:12am
Man! does this girl love talking about "Spider - Man 4" or what. Is she still an actress? or is she now just the full time unofficial spokesman for the franchise and all the parties involved? She seems to think she is anyway.

Crispin Glover joins "The I Scream Man" - Apr 23, 2007 - 01:51pm
"The I Scream Man". Sounds like something that would of made an awesome fake trailer for "Grindhouse".

Sam Raimi's Future is Bright - Apr 22, 2007 - 04:35pm
RE # 2 Wow was I drunk last night, I could of sworn I'd left words but apparently not. Sam Raimi has been one of my favorite directors since I first saw "Evil Dead 2" when I was a kid. Its been a lot of fun watching him go from obscure cult icon to being one of the most successful and powerful directors working right now. I've seen every one of this great mans films, including some of his old home made shorts and he's never disappointed. Well okay, I've seen all his film except for one, never saw "For love of the game", not a fan of sports movies or Kevin Costner so I gave that one a miss. I could go on and on about why Sam Raimi is one of the best directors working right now but at the end of the day for me personally it comes down to three simple things. He created Ash, he made the best horror trilogy of all time and the two best comic book movies of all time. And he gave us Katie Holmes topless, can't forget to mention that too. As for his TV shows I never watched any of the ones that have been mentioned but I was a huge fan of "American Gothic" during it's short run. That show was amazing and in my book goes down as one of those shows that seem too good for TV and just can't find an audiance and sadly get canceled while lesser shows thrive. Another great article Jarrod but I've one small bone to pick with you. "Evil Dead 2" is not a reimagining of "The Evil Dead", it's a strait up sequel. Now this mistake isn't that uncommon but it is indeed a mistake. After the first 7 minutes and 8 seconds of ED2 it picks up at the exact second ED1 finished. The first 7 minutes are just a recap to bring viewers up to speed. Due to the fact Raimi didn't own the rights to ED1 at the time he couldn't use footage from that film so he had to completely re shoot scenes from it for the recap. It's confusing I know 'cause several characters from the first film are not in the recap but this is a decision Raimi made due to money and time restraints and the fact those character were not important to the further development of the story. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything it's just that thats a very touchy issue for hard core ED fans, most of the fans I've encountered online line would rip you a new one for calling ED2 a remake, and then they'd write pages and pages about why it's a sequel and they'd be cutting and pasting quotes from Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert stating its a sequel. That aside, great article and I hope you do write a future article on Sergio Leone, that man was truly one of the best there ever was.

Sam Raimi's Future is Bright - Apr 22, 2007 - 03:00am

Kate Beckinsale is "Barbarella"? - Apr 18, 2007 - 10:51pm
I like the idea of doing the remake in the vein of "Austin Powers". The original was so silly and cheesy it would be hard to remake it seriously, but then again look at what they managed to do with the new version of "Battlestar Galactica". Still though I like the comedy idea better, let see Kate Beckinsale running around in a mode style mini skirt, spewing out bad dialog and hanging out in fur line space ships. could be hilarious. Sadly Kate Beckensale used a body double in "haunted", her only nude scene to date was in "Uncovered".

Clive Owen joins "The International" - Apr 17, 2007 - 02:09pm
The sound of the story doesn't exactly blow me away, but Clive Owens a great actor and I love Tom tykwer films so I'll be on the lookout for a trailer to this one.

"The Hobbit" and "Spider-Man 4" News - Apr 17, 2007 - 03:46am
I really hope that some miracle happens and Jackson ends up directing "the Hobit" but I seriously doubt it and in that case I can't think of a better director to step in then Sam Raimi. I don't buy the whole "Their styles are too different" argument, He and Jackson both started off their carriers making the exact same type of gory, over the top, hilarious, horror films and I think he'd fit in nicely. As for Kirsten Dunst I've like her as an actress since "interview with the vampire" and think people are too hard on her especially in the role of Mary Jane. That being said even I'm getting really sick of her statements about the Spider-Man franchise. "Spider-Man 4" would be "a big flop" with out her Sam and Tobe, Thats a very bold statement. I really wish she would stop speaking for Sam and Tobe and just stick to speaking for herself. I hope like hell Sam Raimi is back for "Spider-Man 4" (and Tobe and Kirsten too) but I wouldn't hold it against him if he wanted a break from Spider-man to direct something different for a change and it seems like the studios want pump out part 4 as fast as they can so he'll have to choose one or the other. And that a shame 'cause all though sam's absents wont affect the box office of "Spider-Man 4" I think it will the quality of the over all film.

Edward Norton is the "Hulk" - Apr 16, 2007 - 02:30am
Wow. If this is true it's an amazing catch for the Hulk. There have been some great A-list actors in resent comic book movies, and Eric Bana is a fine actor in his own right, but Edward Norton is one of the best actors of his generation.

Dario Argento, a Master of Horror - Apr 15, 2007 - 05:03pm
I've been a big fan of Argento for a long time now and I'm not sure I can single out one film as my my favorite, but if I had to I'd probably go with "Tenebre" 'cause it was the first film of his I saw and it left the biggest impression. When I was a kid I was a huge horror fan and pretty much stuck to renting just slasher flicks which was the norm back in the 80's. Then one day I rented "Tenebre" and it blew me away, it was so different from the Freddy and Jason film's that had been occupying so much of my time. There was so much more to it then your average run of the mill American 80's slasher film, and the style of the film was something that made an impression on me for life. "Tenebre" was the first time I watched a film and noticed the artist craft that goes into putting a film together and how a talented director can have their own personal signature and style they put into their work. Argent's films are brutal and violent but they're absolutely beautiful to look at and masterfully crafted, for instance the famous uncut tracking crane shot of the doomed lesbian couple shot from outside the apartment building in "Teanebre" is just plain brilliant. I have to echo bjjdenvers comment about not mentioning Argento's films soundtracks, particularly the incredible work of "Goblin". Their music takes Argento's films to a whole other level, The films would remain great without their music but it would be like watching "Halloween" without Carpenters memorable music score. I love Argento's work but some of him more resent efforts have been sub par - though his contributions to the "Masters of horror" series were quite good I found - but I'm hoping to see him return to old form now that he's finally shot the last part of his "Three Mothers" trilogy.

Christina Ricci joins "Speed Racer" - Apr 13, 2007 - 11:14am
I never liked the show when I was a kid and don't think this is the best idea for a movie. I know some people liked the show but I just don't see them flocking to the theaters. I hope the studio didn't put too much money into this cause I think it'll do about as well as the "Thunderbirds" movie. Damn, thats a great picture of Ricci.

Sarah Michelle Gellar not in "The Dark Knight" - Apr 13, 2007 - 10:48am
This kinda sucks, I miss seeing SMG on the TV every week and could really have gone for seeing her in a GOOD movie. All her post Buffy film choices have been shit and TDK might have been a nice fit for her.

Image of the suit in "Iron Man" - Apr 12, 2007 - 11:09am
No complaints here. This looks great, I can't wait for it to come out.

Weinstein's to split "Grindhouse"? - Apr 10, 2007 - 02:54am
Its too bad, splitting the movie in two defeats the whole purpose of why the film was made in the first place. At least us in North America got to see it as it was meant to be seen for a little while anyway. The poor guys over seas wont get even that because the Weinstein's seem to think double features, exploitation films and dirty rundown theaters filled with seedy characters are something that didn't exist out side the states. They my not have used the term "Grindhouse" over seas but the same movie experiance could be found there too back in the 70's. The plan of splitting the european run of the film has alway been about maximizing the profit and its to bad 'cause it'll disappoint a lot of people over there.

Laura Dern talks "Jurassic Park 4" - Apr 07, 2007 - 02:26am
Weird, each sequel seems to star a different character from the first film, if this trend continues part 5 will be staring the kids from the original movie. Oh well, the third movie was okay so I could go for seeing some more Dinosaurs on the big screen again I guess.

"The Reaping" - Apr 07, 2007 - 02:12am
Uh, didn't mania already review this movie?

"Lost: Left Behind" - Apr 06, 2007 - 02:52pm
Just got around to watching this episode today, and must say it was another great one. I love the way this show has been going lately and it should make for some interesting up coming stories now that one the Losties has joined the others and vis versa. Lock's always been a big focus of the show, so now that he's with the others I imagine we'll see a lot more of them and learn what they're all about.

"28 Weeks Later" International Trailer Online! - Apr 06, 2007 - 12:06pm
Trailer looks okay and I'll probably end up seeing it but I still wish they'd left this franchise alone. They'll never be able to recreate the magic the first one had.

"Grindhouse" - Apr 06, 2007 - 11:53am
I can't wait to see this. looks like the summer seasons starting early for me this year, 'cause this is one of my top 3 most anticipated movies of the year.

"Live Free or Die Hard" Trailer online - Apr 04, 2007 - 02:00pm
I'm not much for action films, I'm kind of a movie snob I'll admit, but this is John-fucking-McClane we're talking about here. The trailer completely won me over and the seen with Kevin Smith at the end bumped it up to a must see film. Kevin Smith in a demanding voice and pointing angrily at Willis "Who is this man!"

Al Pacino Speaks For Us All, Maniacs. - Apr 02, 2007 - 12:59pm
Wessmith, nice call on suggesting Robert Wise. I've seen one film in my life that genuinely scared me and it was the "Haunting". Saw it when I was a kid and it scared the piss out of me like nothing I'd seen before it or after it.

Al Pacino Speaks For Us All, Maniacs. - Apr 01, 2007 - 06:54pm
What can one say about Al Pacino that hasn't been said already, he's considered a living legend and rightfully so. I commend you on writing another good article Jarrod, I enjoyed it as I have your previous ones. If I may be so bold, might I suggest perhaps in a future article profiling and actor or director whom has an impressive body of work and place in history that is undisputable yet remains relatively unknown to the younger movie goer. Someone like a Laurence Olivie or a Betty Davis. I'm not putting down KJ here - he's had a bad week as it is - but he stated that 95% of the people here haven't seen "Suspiria", I think thats way off the mark but if it's even slightly true it's a damn shame. Perhaps an article on Dario Argento or others in the Giallo genre would be an idea. Theres a lot of "Halloween " fans here and that movie would not be what it is if it wasn't for the likes of people like Argento or Mario Bava, John Carpenter has said as much himself. The above people might not really be your cup of tea and you have to write about what you your self have passion for, but you clearly know movies and there are a lot younger people who live in the here and now and could use a bit of enlightening and you might be the person to do that. It's just a suggestion anyway, I'll keep reading regardless so keep up the good work.

Kwik-E-Marts for Real? - Apr 01, 2007 - 02:57am
A real life Kwik - E - Mart would kind of be a cool thing to see. As for the movie I too have mixed feelings, I've never missed an episode of the Simpson's and I never will, but last season I finally got on the Simpson's haters bandwagon. I think it's time to put this horse out to pasture. Last season I realized that some times I could watch an entire episode and not laugh once, maybe smile a few times even chuckle now and then but nothing more then that. I don't agree with all those people who claim the show hasn't been funny in ten years or since the turn of the century, but I'll give you that it's not so funny now. I will also however give the show a bit of credit for having a few episodes this season that have been better then the last two but I still think it's time to throw in the towel. I also gotta say I can't believe they chose now to do a Simpson's movie. Ten years ago this could of been one of the biggest money making movies of all time, even five years ago it could of been the biggest money maker of the year, but NOW, I really can't call it. All the people I know that are my age (late 20's) who used to love this show, now hate it with a passion, but I also know some people in their late teen's and they still seem to love the show so I'm very interested to see how it will do at the box office this summer.

Rod Lurie to direct remake of "Straw Dogs" - Mar 30, 2007 - 02:59pm
Another classic being remade, *sigh* and Americanized too.

Sarah Michelle Gellar joins "The Dark Knight"? - Mar 30, 2007 - 02:48pm
#10 You're obviously not a fan of her work, thats cool you're entitled to your opinion. I myself was impressed with her performances in film's like "Walk The Line," "Election", and "Twilight"- which had a nude seen. #13 I never said that some one has to "show their tits" to be a good actress. It's just that when an actor or actress has any kind of clause in their contract it says to me that this a person thats happy to make millions for the role but only willing to put so much of themselves into it. Then you've got these other actors and actress who have so much passion for the project they are working on that they'll do anything to make the performance better. From Charilize Theron gaining a ton of wight and transforming herself in some one hideous and unrecognizable in "Monster", To Christian Bale dropping a dangerous 63 pounds and becoming creepy thin in "The Machinist". It's just my personal feeling on the mater but actors that give it their all have my up most respect, They put others that interfere with a directors vision to shame. There seems to be a lot less of the actors willing to give all they have to a role these days and a lot more like Jessica Alba who are happy to play a stripper but not actually strip.

Sarah Michelle Gellar joins "The Dark Knight"? - Mar 30, 2007 - 03:44am
I'm kinda for this, I loved Buffy when it used to be on and would like to see Sarah in a movie I actually want to see. Not something thats just going strait to video, a shitty horror remake or involve a talking dog. Her acting abilities are limited I admit, she falls under what I like to call the "WB actress" class. Her and Jennifer Love Hewitt and others in their class mostly do PG-13 horror films, give basically average performances, have no nudity clauses and collect their checks and go home. They're a far cry from their cousins, who I just like to refer to as "real actress", The Resse Witherspoons, Hillary Swanks, and Maggie Gayllenhaals. The ones who go the extra mile and do whatever the role calls for and at the end of the day leave a memorable performance and sometime win awards. That being said, I feel she can supply what a comic movie will require her to give. I should also say that I've never read a Bat Man comic in my life, I was a Marvel only guy way back when I used to collect so I have no idea who Harley is and no feelings whatsoever for the character. If she was playing a beloved marvel character I was familiar with I might have a different take on the situation.

"Lost" Season 4 starting in January? - Mar 28, 2007 - 05:01pm
Anything is better then this new trend of breaking seasons in to blocks, I guess I'm old fashioned cause I like the old system of sprinkling reruns though out a shows season. Lost started this new trend cause they lost fans last season who don't seem to have access to a TV guide and couldn't tell if an up coming episode was new or a repeat. This decision bit Lost in the ass big time cause the first couple episodes after the break were the lowest rated in the shows history. I don't mind waiting till January for Lost to start if it means no more breaks in mid season. I really hate that in this season a lot of shows are just completely stopping for months at a time and putting some other show it that time slot for the duration of the break. I only watch a hand fully of TV shows and every single one of them has adopted this block mode, so hopefully all the shows that followed Lost to the block mode of programing will follow Lost to this 24 mode of programing.

The Neverending Anime - Mar 28, 2007 - 03:01pm
Man, I haven't thought about "The Neverending Story in years. It's my first movie memory too - well second actually, I saw "return Of The Jedi" before it but my memory of that experience is kinda foggy. I'm not a fan of remakes but it might not be a terrible idea for this film in some form. I haven't seen this film since the 80's ended and have a feeling that a viewing now with older jaded eyes will taint the fond memory I have of it. I have no urge to see it now and prefer instead to just remember the memory of that day that my dad took me to see it in the theater when I was a boy. I've never read the book but if it is indeed a mammoth of a book than anime might be the logical rout. I'm not an anime fan my self I must confess, not cause I don't like it or respect it but cause I'm huge movie buff. I enjoy studying the history of cinema and watching everything I can get my hands on and there's over a hundred years of films from all over the world so my plates already pretty full without introducing anime in to the mix. But maybe I could make an exception for the "Neverending Story". Good article, you brought back some fond memories that I haven't thought about in years.

"X-Files 2" in final negotiations? - Mar 28, 2007 - 01:27am
Man this makes me happy. I know it seems to be the cool thing these days to shit on the X-Files and that people seem to only remember the shitty last two seasons and completely forget how great a show it once was but I for one am psyched to see it back in some form. Now let the negative posts start! with half the people saying they waited to long, it's to late for this film. And the other half who will say it too soon, and that they should wait another few years like the first Star Trek move did.

Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas in "Sin City 2"? - Mar 27, 2007 - 03:01pm
Sin city was an awesome film and I can't wait for the next instalment, with or without Johnny Depp I got high hopes for this film. As for the KJ situation, I feel kinda bad for him that things got as bad as they did yesterday but you have to admit he brought it on him self. I used to pick up a copy of Cinescape magazine on the rare occasion in the early 00's and for that reason have got most of my movie info from this same site for the last 5 or so years. There's a lot of changes made I don't like when Cinescape became mania but the KJ's take is the I've just never been able to get uses to. I come to get info on movies, unbiased info on movies, not a critique. I like this right now, it's just like it was at Cinescape. Although I usually don't agree with KJ's take and I personally think the person working in the movie section of this site should have great respect and knowledge for film past and present, foreign and domestic - and thinking 'Suspiria' is an obscure and unknown film is just the latest thing to show KJ is not that person - I still believe he is entitled to is opinion. Just put it at the bottom of the page like everyone else.

"Teen Wolf" remake in the works, Tom Welling stars? - Mar 27, 2007 - 01:26pm
Look on the bright side, they're remaking Michael J Fox's shity film from 1985 but not his great one. Although I do fear one day Back To The Future's turn will indeed come.

New Line says no "Elm Street" or "Freddy vs Jason 2" - Mar 27, 2007 - 01:12pm
I really enjoyed Freddy vs. Jason, why some people bitch about it is beyond me. The concept of the movie is simple; Freddy fights Jason. It's not supposed to be oscar material, it's just a fun movie for horror fans, with the two most iconic horror villains from two of the 80's most popular slasher films. I felt the movie was as good a film as could be made on the subject. I will admit I didn't really like Ronny Yu's directing style but for me being a child of the 80's who uses to live and breath slasher films It was just plain fun to see those two on the screen together. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well the move managed to recreate the feel and atmosphere of each particular franchise. I find it mind boggling that there's no plan for a follow up since the movie only cost like 30 mill to make and made a profit. We live in an age where studios are remaking everything they can get their greedy hands on and turning on sequels to anything that made even the slightest profit. why not this one too?

"28 Weeks Later" Trailer now Online - Mar 27, 2007 - 03:26am
damn trailers not working right now. I wanted to check it out even though I have no expectations for this film what so ever. 28 Days Later was probably my favorite horror film of this decade and I'm not down with them forcing out an unnecessary sequel (especially without the involvement of Danny Boyle) just cause the first made a profit. I've nothing against Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as a director - "Intacto" looked like a cool film but I never got around to seeing it - Its just that I'm a Danny Boyle fan and think that 28 Days Later is a perfect little stand alone horror film and should be left that way.

Kurt Russell talks about the remake of "Escape" - Mar 26, 2007 - 04:47am
You know, I have to say I've hated the whole "KJ's Take" since the beging but I also thought that the overwhelming hatred that the majority of people had for you was unwaranted. However as time went by it became clear (especially after that blog you posted) you deserve all the contempt that people have for you. You're a shit stirer, you seem to post the most outrageous banter you can think of for the sole purpose of riling up a bunch of fanboys. You come off as arrogant, unintelligent and most of all immature. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, even morons (and by the way, what are you, like 16 years old?), but why you need to try to make your thoughts a part of the news article is beyond me. I mean non of the other writers seem to feel the need to let everyone know what is on their mind, and if they do, they post it at the bottom of the page like every one else, but I guess your above that. I'm sorry to be another one of those people posting about their dissident for KJ but its late, I'm tired and I can just see him rubbing his evil little cheetos stained hands together in anticipation of the shit storm he hopes to create with his latest "Take".

Samuel L. Jackson - Mar 26, 2007 - 02:33am
[pointing his gun] "Say what again. SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you, motherfucker. Say what one more goddamn time." There's no body cooler than Sam. Well maybe Bruce Campbell

Kirsten Dunst says "Spider-Man" needs a break - Mar 16, 2007 - 02:07pm
I would hate see Spidey go on a long hiatus, this is my favorite comic movie franchise, with Spider-Man 2 being the Godfather of all Comic book movies IMO. But if taking some time off and doing some other projects for a bit is what it will take to keep Sam at the helm I'm all for it. Just as long as he finally delivers the 4th Evil Dead installment that he's been promising for the last 14 years.

Rider Strong returning for "Cabin Fever 2" - Mar 14, 2007 - 06:58pm
miko34, I didn't like the new Dawn of the dead as much as most seemed to, I'll give it that it's the best of the remakes and that I thought it was OK but I wouldn't buy it and it left me wanting to watch the original. I thought Saw was overrated, not a bad film but very overrated. I forgot about Slither, you're right that one was pretty good. The Descent was amazing but a British horror film not an American one. I find that all the good horror films these days seem to come out of the UK, Europe, or Asia.

Rider Strong returning for "Cabin Fever 2" - Mar 14, 2007 - 12:52pm
I never got the overwhelming hatred so many people have for this film. It's just a horror film, its not supposed to be Citizen Kane or anything. The only reason I can come up with is that people got the hopes set unreasonably high after all the praise the film was getting from great directors like Sam Raimi, Quentin Tarantino, and Peter Jackson. I'm in the minority here but enjoyed this film a great deal and in a world where most American horror films being released are crappy remakes I honestly can't think of an American horror film thats come out since Cabin Fever that I've liked as much as that film.

Gerard Butler joins "Escape From New York" - Mar 13, 2007 - 01:53pm
You would think that Hollywood would have it's hands full with trying to remake every horror film ever made that they could leave classics like EFNY alone. Or at least untill they get tiard of remaking Asian films. But no, 'cause there's possiblely a small profit to be made remaking it, slapping on a PG 13 rating and whoring it towards a bunch of ignorant, self absorber, American Idol obsessed teenagers who have never heard of the origanal and could much less be bothered to watch any film that predates the mid 80's. Hell, why don't we just remake everything for the younger generation, regardless of how beloved, or highly reguarded it is. I was talking with a couple of people at work the other day who are 20 and neither one of them had ever heard of "Citizen Kane", "Psycho", or "Casablanca". So here's a new untaped resource for you Hollywood, I know you already ruined "Psycho." but you can still basterdize the other two. Get a cast consisting of actors from the CW, add color and a rap sound track and the kid's will love it.

"Lost: Enter 77" - Mar 09, 2007 - 01:43am
This was a hell of a good episode, with the best flashback sequence of the season IMO. The only complaint I had is that Locke again seemed to be acting out of character, the seen with him struggling between guarding the eye patch man or playing chess seemed more like something Homer Simpson would do, not the wise Locke we know from the previous seasons. But its a small complaint for an episode that left me very satisfied

Fox green lights Shyamalan's "The Happening" - Mar 07, 2007 - 01:26pm
I didn't really care much for his last two films but I think the guys got some talent. I think it would be a good idea on his part for him to direct a move with a script written by someone els. And he really needs to stop making movies with twists at the end. It's not really a surprise when the whole audience is sitting there waiting for the surprise.

Gibson filming in Panama? - Mar 07, 2007 - 12:43pm
For the most part I like his films but I'd need to see a trailer before I make a decision on whether or not I'll see this one
