Fox doesn't have a cast yet for their upcoming adaptation of The A-Team, based on the cult classic 80's action series, but they have a release date in mind, reports Variety. The big screen treatment to be directed by John Singleton will hit theaters June 12, 2009. The new opening date has it going up against Eddie Murphy's next comedy Nowhereland. The screenplay was written by partners Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (3:10 to Yuma).

The remake to 3:10 to Yuma was written well and the performances by Bale and Crowe emphasized the script's competence. Just hope Singleton doesn't mug the premise with 2nd rate direction or pandering to the lowest common demographic.

Last interview I heard Ice Cube do, he said he'd "Pity the fool who thought about taking his role!" wink wink ! That "Colonel Hannibal" was getting the Clooney make over. Eric Bana had the right "Face," and Jim Carey was "Howling Mad" for his role.

get MR. T back!

God Jim Carey would sink this if he got Murdock. I like Singleton's first choice in Woody Harrelson for Howlin' Mad.
I like Cube alright but agree he couldn't pull off a believable BA. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje would make a kick-ass Barracus.
Not too sure about Bana as Faceman.
Clooney is pretty perfect as Hannibal. Be interesting to see if he’d take the role though. I’ll refrain from suggesting Don Cheadle.

Ice Cube? No thanks. Actually what does it matter...its just another idiotic remake from a town that is now totally bereft of any creative or original idea. I just pray the American film industry collapses and goes under somehow...

singleton's direction for a hard Action movie where people actually die and get shot and theres blood... makes me worried.
it really doesnt matter how talented of an actor they get to fill these rolls, the movie will just appear like they used the title "The A-team" and the character names and made a Die Hard out of it... whether it will suck or not doesnt really matter, it most certainly wont be embraced by the original fans of the show if it goes for a high realistic action movie and ditches the "light hearted action-non-intentional comedy romp" format of the original show.
if Singleton has his way ,whats to make The A-Team any differnt from the remake of Shaft or Die Hard or any of the other action flicks? Plus as much as I love Woody Harrelson or George Clooney I dont think anyone could do ths juctice outside of Mr T, Dirk Benedict, the Late George Peppard and Dwight Schultz... anybody else would just be using the names of the characters and it wouldnt satisfy longtime fans (even if it is a "good" movie) and then they say they arent even fro mthe Vietnam era anymore, they are Gulf War era veterans... 'scuse me, HELLO does anybody see that Singleton's update is ripping the heart and soul straight from the orignal show to create an updated movie that is vastly different?
soldiers for hire my ass... maybe you can hire... screw it.

I've got no problem updating from Vietnam to Iraq but I do understand your concern over the general feel of the film. I agree with ya, mckracken, and I stated such here in the past. What made the A-Team great wasn't all the action. It was the humorous interaction of the Team that kept people tuning in week after week. That NEEDS to translate to the film or, yes, this will be pointless action crap that has no point in being called The A-Team.
Shaft did suck. I've got hope for this one though. Its gonna all come down to that first trailer for me. Until then I'll remain optimistic about one of my most cherished childhood shows getting an adult make-over.

Everytime I hear Ice Cube as B.A. I just want to throw up.
No problem with Singleton updating the movie. Agree that it doesn't need to be just violent action, the chemistry of the team is what's important. But something along the feel of the last Die Hard wouldn't be bad IMO. Action with enough humor to go along with it and hopefully keeping the violence bloodless.
