Austin Powers Composer George S. Clinton to be honored at 2007 BMI TV & Film Awards
By: Randall LarsonDate: Friday, May 11, 2007
An awards dinner presented by U.S. performing rights organization BMI honoring composers of the music from the past year's top-grossing films, top-rated prime-time network television series, and highest-ranking cable network programs, will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on next Tuesday, May 16th in Beverly Hills.
George S. Clinton will be honored with the BMI Richard Kirk Award for Outstanding Career Achievement. Clinton’s versatility and exceptional musical prowess have placed the Grammy-nominated maestro in the upper echelon of Hollywood composers. The recipient of six BMI awards and composer for myriad films, Clinton’s scores have lent depth to thrillers including Mortal Kombat and Wild Things; supplied skillful timing to comedic smashes Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and its two sequels; and helped paint poignant moments in Joe Somebody, quirky moods in 3,000 Miles to Graceland and foreboding atmospheres in The Astronaut’s Wife. An active member of the film community, George S. Clinton also serves as an advisor at the Sundance Institute’s Composers Lab.
Also awarded will be the Classic Contribution Award, Oscar Award Winners, Golden Globe Award Winners, Emmy Winners and Cable Award Winners.
