Avatar wasn't original.  Big revelation, given that nothing is original & everything is the sum of its inspirations.  What IS interesting is how many of you haters will go out of your way to comment about a film you hate.  It's pretty lame.  If you don't like Avatar, put it in your rear view & move on with your life.

Scyth, we "haters" comment because that's what this site is for, commenting on your likes and dislikes when it comes to Movies, TV, Comics, Books, Video Games, and so forth. If all the haters "moved on", then there wouldn't be all the fun banter back and forth like we have.

The most interesting man in the world is also the most interesting man on Nabu, that's how Cameron got the story.

Scythe, as my good friend Eagle has pointed out, this site is for both positive and negative reviews and for repetition of those views I may add!  So if you don't like that then perhaps you need to either stop reading the comments on this site or put them in your rearview and move on with your life!

Eagle, I may not share your exact view on Avatar but your review of it never grows old for me because it's too damn funny!  LOL!!!  My view on Avatar is in the middle of the road in that I thought it was good but far from a great movie.  The overall story simply wasn't strong enough, the middle part was way too slow and bored me too much and was disappointed that a man of Cameron's talents didn't write something better, so yeah, I agree that the overall concept of the movie was visuals.  While the cast wasn't terrible in my sight, they weren't anything special either and perhaps Cameron should've pushed them more or again maybe the script should've had more for them to do.  The characters were too one-dimensional for my taste and more should've been done with them.  On the flip side, the visuals were terrific as were the action sequences and in the end, the film works as sheer entertainment.  I agree that Aliens and T2 were WAY, WAY, WAY THE HELL BETTER and I would say Titanic was WAY BETTER as well!!!  Especially Aliens and one of the things that impresses me so much about that movie is not only the great material that Cameron wrote but also his execution of it.  Another is that he only had $18 million for it's budget which even now 26 years later wouldn't be that much in inflated dollars!!

Eagle, another example I'd give (although I don't know if you like it) would be District 9.  That was a terrific sci-fi film that was great all-around and I not only admired it for that but also for it's low budget, which was about $30 million.  The visuals were excellent, especially the aliens which will never look old for me.  The director of that movie, Neill Blomkamp, has shown that you can make a small bugeted movie like that look like $100-$150 million or more!!!  Perhaps Cameron should take a page from that playbook and realize that he can do that again as he did with not only the previously mentioned Aliens but also The Terminator!!

bravo, keith, bravo, clap, clap, clap to quote aliens "game over man game over" you explained in better words what i was saying. I honest to god fell asleep to that movie cause i was so bored. the visuals was amazing but i felt like i was at a art gallery rather then a movie. it was like reading a anne rice novel and forgetting what the book was about cause all it kept on talking about was the background of where they were at for like 12 pages at a time.

The sequels will be better than the already awesome first, that's Cameron's m.o.. Both sequels in Alien and Terminator took it to another level.

The first touched up so many current topics and problems today that's why it resonated so much with general audiences even if some fanboys bitch as usual.

If being pretty to look at was the only thing it would never have reached the astronomical 2.7 billion
