With James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar poised to strike theaters in 15 days, 20th Century Fox has unleashed their full press kit to the media. And with that kit comes 21 official images from the action-adventure which you can check out in our gallery. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald. James Cameron makes his long-awaited return behind the camera from a story he wrote.

Plot Concept: The story centers on Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. Bitter and disillusioned, he's still a warrior at heart. All Jake ever wanted was something worth fighting for, and he finds it in the place he least expected: on a distant world. Jake has been recruited to join an expedition to the moon Pandora, which corporate interests are strip-mining for a mineral worth $20 million per kilogram on Earth. To facilitate their work, the humans use a link system that projects a person's consciousness into a hybrid of humans and Pandora's indigenous humanoids, the Na'vi. This human-Na'vi hybrid – a fully living, breathing body that resembles the Na'vi but possesses the individual human's thoughts, feelings and personality – is known as an "avatar."

In his new avatar form, Jake can once again walk. His mission is to interact with and infiltrate the Na'vi with the hope of enlisting their help – or at least their acquiescence – in mining the ore. A beautiful Na'vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake's life, albeit reluctantly, because even in his avatar body, Jake represents to her the human encroachment on the Na'vi's unspoiled world.

As Jake's relationship with Neytiri deepens, along with his respect for the Na'vi, he faces the ultimate test as he leads an epic conflict that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

Avatar will hit theaters December 18, 2009.

Still a little worried about this one. I will see it come Dec. 18th, but, as Han Solo said, "I have a bad feeling about this." I dunno. It still seems to be shaping up as "Dances With Wolves" in space. I know Cameron is very keen on a strong story, but I'll just hafta wait and see what transpires from this one. The visuals look to rock my world, but I hope that's not all that does from this movie. We'll see.....

Hobbs 12/3/2009 6:44:00 AM

Eagle, does it matter if its similiar to Dances with Wolves?  I mean honestly...who cares considering how old Dances is and the fact a whole younger generation has ever seen it. There will be enough of a story to make this an enjoyable movie.  Special effects I still question but if the story is good then I can look past the Pixar flaws.

Wiseguy 12/3/2009 7:52:25 AM

The b.s. about Dances with Wolves in Space is just that b.s. All movies resemble some other movie, it's a revenge film, it's a redemption film, it's a little guy vs big guy thing, it's a loser beating the odds film. We can play that game forever. The fact of the matter is that it's a fairly original film with a completely fresh setting done in 3D with masterful cgi work by a master movie maker.

The more clips I see of the movie and see the shots fully rendered the more authentic it looks and I have no doubt that AVATAR will indeed rock. It's ok to be a bit pessimistic after the long hiatus Cameron took but I think that will only serve to rejuvenate and spark his imagination and talent. I could be wrong but I highly doubt it, especially with all the kudos he's gotten from insiders who've peaked at his work.

14 days 13hours and 8minutes, come on DEC 18th

I have all his movies, except for piranha:)  I'll be doing a Cameron marathon on thursday dec 17th then see the midnight show.  And yes that includes Titanic

Too much hype, too high expectations.  It'll be a feast for the eyes and lets face it, Cameron is gold. But it's not like it's the second coming or anything, I'm looking forward to Iron Man 2 way more than attack of the blue cat people.

I'm still kinda "meh" on the film itself, but I gotta admit, that camera Cameron has in the last picture, the one that lets him see the CGI characters and environment in-camera while shooting the actors on the motion-capture stage, is awesome!

EagleManiac 12/3/2009 10:31:07 AM

Hobbs and Wiseguy, I know that movies are rehashes of similar stories. My point is, so many are hyping this up so high, that I HOPE it can meet those expectations. THAT is why I'm keeping my expectations LOW so I can be, HOPEFULLY, surprised! I want to see this as bad as you two, BUT, as Jerichorain said, and I agree, I am more excited about Iron Man 2 than Avatar. Robert Downey Jr. is THE MAN! He IS Iron Man! And he is a fantastic actor! I'm just glad there is some time between both movies so they won't be stepping on either ones fame! Iron Man was, and still is one of my favorite films of all time, and to me is THE best Comic Book to Film adaptation ever done. But those are MY opinions. You all can agree or disagree all you want....that won't change my opinion.

I picked up the art of avatar book yesterday and I have to tell you I don't think the previews are doing it justice. There is so much incredible stuff to this film it's amazing. Every single detail was worked out, a language for the Navi which is also used in the soundtrack, real botanists who worked with the artists to design plants, and then of course all of the species on the planet, and then there's the marine gear. It's just awsome, if you get a chance pick the book up. I think the new tv spots they have been showing, I saw it on Sons of Anarchy season finale, are looking better and better. The CGI seems to be much smoother than the teaser, you can see that a lot of work is still being done. I don't care what anyone else thinks I bought my tickets this week.

Dec 18 bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
