Ubisoft has revealed a walkthrough video for Avatar, the upcoming video game adaptation of the James Cameron film. The new video puts you into the Pandora rain forest, one of 16 different environments in the gameCheck it out in the video below.
Plot Concept: Based on James Cameron's sci-fi epic, the video game will take you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. Gamers will encounter the Na’vi, Pandora’s indigenous people and discover other life forms the likes of which have never been seen in the world of video games before. When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium in search of valuable resources, and the Na’vi, gamers will find themselves thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.
A friend of mine at Ubisoft just finished working on that game... I like the graphics, but so far it's nothing to write home about, and the game play is too much like Jurrassic Park or something.
"Hey, let's invade a planet and kill all the indigenous animals there"
Your friend who worked on the game doesn't think highly of it or you don't?
With all games I wait for reviews before I fork over 60 bucks for it. Take the new Halo for example, I was stoked to buy it only to find out its about 4 hours long and should have been a download not a 60 buck game...so I didn't pick it up.
As for this game, I like the trailer. It looks like a cross between Gears Of War and Knights Of The Old Republic. Looks promising so we'll see.
I'm a PC gamer, and I am sick of console game ports dummying the PC version. Consoles never can do what PC's can do when it comes to games, but now developers are just simply porting them over direct, without taking advantage of the superior PC hardware. Some exceptions have been games like Crysis(still THE BEST looking/playing FPS on the planet), that no console could ever do as well, and also Far Cry 2. I think these developers have gotten lazy, and the PC community suffers for it. Sometimes, as with Bioshock, the post DOES take advantage of PC hardware better than other ports, but it doesn't happen as often as this PC gamer would like to see.
Hobbs, no offense, but to me, Halo has never been a very good series of games. Too boring, IMO.
I am also an "old school" gamer as well, and I LOVE having emulators to run old PC, Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore64, etc. computer games, as well as MAME(I have over 375 titles)for the classic arcade games. THAT was when games were really fun! MAME is just too cool!
Eagle, I'm in agreement with you that PC are a far superior system and games are about 20 bucks cheaper for better quality. That's not in dispute, however, consoles are the place the majority goes to get their games. I think its a sad fact but its a fact that's where they money is being made. Look at those horrible EA sports crap, it shouldn't even be made yet they are making tons of money off of it. Why go the PC route when they are doing that? From a business standpoint I understand it. Take Crysis for example, you and many people have pointed out that's the best FPS game out there but most people I know can't play it because they have to upgrade their PC to meet he system requirements and don't have the cash for it. That's always been the problem with PC's is that you constantly have to upgrade what you have...and the big one...the thing that's going to eventually kill PC games is SecuROM. All those games coming out have that and PC owners are already revolting against it and not buying the game that require it.
As far as Halo is concerned, in the FPS shooter relm its in the top 10 as far as I'm concerned but everyone has an opinion. I've played tons of FPS and I don't think its that differnet from a lot that has already come out. The one draw back that has always driven me nuts with Halo is that you can't save it at any time. You have to wait for check points which always sucked especially if something comes up where you have leave the game in the middle of a checkpoint.
Chopaski I'm sorry buddy but chances are I won't be reviewing the game unless the reviews are off the chart and it has a good multiplayer and even then it probably will be a rental like I do for movie video games.
I know Ubisoft has had tons of time to develop the game but most video games based on movies suck. I played 3 this summer (Wolverine, Terminator & Transformers) and while all were more fun than watching the movies, the Wolverine video game was the only one worth it.
Hobbs, I picked up Halo: ODST, it's actually a pretty good deal if you don't already own the Halo map packs so it worked out for me for me since I was late to the Halo 3 party. I haven't beaten it yet so don't know how long the campaign is but I would imagine if you will play through the campaign at least twice to get all the achievements and then playing on the higher difficulties so you will get minimum 8 hours worth. Unless you a Halo beast and can play it in Legendary the first time through.
If you do own all the maps then I would suggest you at least rent it and play through it once cause it's a good game.
I don't find the Halo games boring at all but the main draw for that series has always been the multiplayer. It's been like 3 years since it's been out and last week it was the #1 game on Xbox Live and is constantly in the top 3 duking it out with the Call of Duty series.
Finally, another reason not to buy Avatar: The Game, there is a little game called Modern Warfare 2 that releases Nov 10 2009.
Oh and if you bought Halo: ODST at Toys R US they were giving a $20 gift card, don't know if it was just for when the game released though.
If you don't touch the Halo 3 campaign anymore you might consider selling it or trading it in at Game Stop. You get $20.25 at Gamestop if you trade it towards an ODST purchase. ODST has a seperate disc for the Halo 3 multiplayer and you get access to all the Halo 3 online achievements as well.
I totally agree on the X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Uncaged Edition comment. Totally awesome, I played the entire game through 3 times on harder difficulty levels to collect all the mutagens, max out the skills and the costumes. Simple, super fun (albeit a tad repetitive) but whatever. Hands down my favorite game of the summer.
Terminator Salvation had okay graphics, but it was pretty boring, give or take 1 or 2 levels. Like the movies, I didn't even bother with the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen or G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra games.
Another pretty satistying movie-game of the summer was Ghostbusters.
No doubt, Ghostbusters was masterful but I don't really count that because it wasn't tied to a partifuclar Ghostbuster movie though it was based on a movie franchise.
Ghostbusters was good, because they had Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis involved -- the guys behind the movie. Apparently they took their script for Ghostbusters 3 and adapted it to the video game. Well done.
As for this walkthrough, I'm concerned. The animation doesn't look very polished, and I didn't like the way some of the animals seemed to move in unison. Verdict's still out about the movie, but I'm thinking the game just isn't going to be able to live up to the Avatar hype.
Hanso review the game stat!
