As reported in last weekend's box office report, James Cameron's Avatar has officially become the highest-grossing worldwide earner of all-time after Monday's numbers. Fox has released a statement thanking the fans for the film's continued success.

"We are deeply gratified that so many millions of people around the globe have embraced 'Avatar,'" said Fox in a statement. "Its success results from the efforts of literally thousands of people, who, over the course of several years, worked to bring James Cameron's vision of Pandora to life. The themes of protecting the environment, respecting life, and yearning for a peaceful planet have united moviegoers worldwide. We're very proud of, and grateful to, James Cameron, his amazing and dedicated team, and all the many people at Fox, who worked so long and so hard to achieve this milestone."

With Monday's numbers, Avatar has the new record with a worldwide cume of $1,858 billion, a full $15 million past that of the previous record holder, Titanic's $1.843 billion. The record was taken in just 39 days of release, giving Cameron's latest film a shot at passing the $2 billion mark worldwide and padding that lead even further.

The final Titanic record to capture is the film's domestic total of $600.3 million. With Avatar currently in 2nd all-time on the domestic list with $554.9 million, it will likely be surpassing that mark sometime in early February.

Thanks to fft5305 for the submission.

Top two movies of all time, both by a giant margin.  The man has the magic fingers, and I'm not talking about a massage machine, though I'm sure he has that too.
