Stereoscopic 3D technologoly has far surpassed cardboard glasses. The glasses now are just like wearing a pair of sunglasses and are quite comfortable. You forget you have them on.

The hype factor for James Cameron's Avatar received an extra boost this week with the director showing off 24 minutes of footage at the Cinema Expo in Amsterdam.
While the media is under an embargo ban from revealing any photos or footage of the clips shown at the event, some early word-of-mouth has been coming online this past day after the exhibit. BBC has published some of those fan reactions here while CS likewise had an insider report on what happened at the event here.
The same footage will likely be playing at this year's Comic-Con event in San Diego and with Mania attending the event, we'll have some footage or photos to pass your way when the time comes.
The highly-anticipated directing return of Cameron stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald.
Plot Concept: The story follows that of an ex-Marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.
Avatar will hit 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on December 18, 2009.

Ok, where's Hanso with his "Avatar will OWN, son" and "It will melt you faces off" comments?
Yea man, when was the last time you went to a 3D film? Cardboard glasses are long gone.
Half the people that saw the footage of Avatar had to be taken to the hospital due to the visual overload. True story.
And Jarrod, what up with that weak picture you got up for this article? You should've gone with one of the the two concept art floating around.
Do they throw the glasses in some sterilize tank when the movie is over? We don't need to put on the glasses of some stank f**k who had a sweating problem, pink eye issue or something else. That's my only gripe about 3-D movies and why I haven't seen one since I was a kid.
Hobbs, I don't know what they do with the glasses after you finish watching the movie. You basically put them in a garbage can type thing. I do know the ones they always give out are unopend and come in a little plastic bag thing.
Hobbs, you sound like Howie Mandel! Hahaha!
But that shit is seriously gross.
We have them uploaded into the website if you prefer the concept art over the photo of Cameron on set, Hanso. Doesn't really matter to me.
Hobbs/Hanso, the ones that come in the plastic bag (unopened) are for Digital 3-D only. IMAX 3-D gives them out open and I think they just have them cleaned and the lenses changed, according to two AMC/IMAX workers. lol Ya I've asked. Thats why I keep my pair of glasses for both types of 3-D. I took my IMAX 3-D glasses and modified them as well, where the sides are covered and all I see when I put them on is the movie, with no light coming in from the corners and not seeing stupid people munching on popcorn three seats over. Makes the 3-D experience at the IMAX even better.
Avatar in IMAX 3-D, can't wait! Looking forward to Alice In Wonderland in IMAX 3-D also!
Of course the shit was awesome, even the likes of Spielberg, Jackson and Lucas have been blown away from the peeks they got. So amazing that you couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't by their accounts. Why they induftry is so committed to going 3D in just about everything. Cameron leads and everyone else follows, we know that.
It only confirms what some of us have been saying all along, this will be a watershed moment in cinema and will set the new mark pass Titanic. I-Max has it tentatively scheduled for at least a 3 mnonth run, now that's confidence.
Hobbs, I always keep my glasses. When the movie is over I put them back in their baggie, take'em home watch them and take them with me when checking out another 3D film.
Let us all have a look at it. I don't care if it's in 3D or not. Do we have to wear the stupid cardboard eyeglasses in the theatre? Sat it ain't so!!!!!
