Avengers 2 in the Works

Well duh...

In case there was any doubt, there will be a sequel to the superhero blockbuster The Avengers.
Disney CEO Bob Iger made the announcement Tuesday, stating during a conference call that a second installment of the men-in-tights epic is in the works.
Though Iger's statement marked the first official announcement of an Avengers sequel, it's hardly surprising -- the Joss Whedon-directed Avengers, which opened in the U.S. May 4, has already amassed a global box-office take in excess of $700 million.
In addition, Disney has three other Marvel superhero films on its slate. Next year, the third Iron Man film arrives in May and a Thor sequel is set for November 2013. The sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger is planned for April in 2014.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

Oh please let the Mayans be wrong... oh please let the Mayans be Wrong!!!!

Radar2018 5/9/2012 8:59:18 AM

And I can't wait to see it!!!! I'm happy so far. Hoping that Joss takes on the next one too. it would be awesome!!!!

This is the "no sh*t Sherlock, what was your first clue" headline of the day.  Also, I hear The Avengers will be over $1 billion in box office receipts after this weekend.

Does anyone else here believe that Coulson becomes the Vision in the next go around?  Or part of the secret Marvel production that is being rumored?  Clark Gregg has been in 4 Marvel productions with 2 left on his contract.

Please excuse me for being pedantic: The Mayans never "predicted" anything. People have read & misinterpreted ancient carvings & more or less concluded they predicted the end of the world in 2012 so be comforted that the Mayans hold no danger for preventing our fanboy enjoyment of Avengers 2: Thanos Gets His %$# Handed to Him.

I wonder if Joss can even top himself with a sequel? Thats gotta be intimidating, but I hope he can, that will be one helluva movie!

doublerdiner 5/9/2012 9:14:28 AM

Mayans...Ha ha ha!  I'm not exactly losing any sleep over that particular crap.  I'm losing sleep over excitement and anticipation for more Marvel movies though!

OK obviously like DarthBob said this is a "no shit Sherlock" sort of stuff but the fact is Iger did not say that. I was watching cnbc when he was in this call. He said basically Avengers leads them back to making Thor and Cap #2 and IM #3 and hopefully Avengers 2. Just saying that it hasn't been officially green lit, it isn't in the works or pre-production. There's nothing official even though we know it's coming but I'm sure they have to decide how the other sequels will if at all play into Avengers 2

DarthBob,  that sounds like a reach to me at first but thinking on it Coulson did have that sort of "Spock" approach to things. He seemed pretty calculated and emotionless for the most part, almost robotic. But no I'd be surprised, I'd be less surprised if he was still alive and Fury went along with him to manipulate the team to become a team and faked his death. Maybe the emt's got there on time afterall

Coulson could become the template for the very first sheild LMD, leading to him becoming the Vision.  Just spitballing.

gambit2382 5/9/2012 9:46:34 AM

As much as I liked Coulson, I'm glad they killed him off to make room for characters that actually exist in the Marvel Universe.  I'm not a big fan of creating characters like that for movies, when there's plenty of heroes or even S.H.I.E.L.D. agents from the comics they could choose from.

Maybe Coulson didn't die because he was never alive to begin with. I think that it would be cool that after four movies he's been an android the whole time.
