A month after revealing individual concept art for all of Marvel's The Avengers at the San Diego Comic Con, it looks like we're getting a depiction of the whole team together. The fellow geeks over at Bleeding Cool revealed this latest artwork and reports that it's just a working cover for an upcoming book called "Road to the Avengers."

Set to hit book stores sometime in the near future, it will center on comics and their previously-revealed movie tie-in counterparts and is described with the following plot concept:

Gear up for the upcoming Avengers movie with these official in-movie continuity stories starring Avengers mainstays Iron Man, Captain America and the Agents S.H.I.E.L.D.! First, it's an expanded re-imagining of the original Iron Man, featuring bonus scenes not in the movie! Then, it's an all-new Iron Man adventure! What happened between the events of Iron Man and Iron Man 2? How did Tony Stark put a new chapter in the history books? And how did Iron Man break and rewrite all the rules? Then, it's Black Widow, Nick Fury and Agent Coulson in espionage action! Think you know S.H.I.E.L.D.? Check out what you DIDN'T see in the movies! And finally, it's the official comics prequel to the blockbuster Captain America! Steve Rogers is the inspiration for millions during the dark days of World War Two -- but where did he get his inspiration from? How did he meet his best friend, "Bucky" Barnes? And what set him on the path to becoming the First Avenger? Experience an all-new Cap adventure on the European battlefields.

Check out the working cover artwork below.

Marvel's The Avengers flies into theaters May 4, 2012.

Hulk Smash Puny Heros.

this looks good...just wish they would keep Thor's helmet on. I guess they'll be no Giant man or Wasp...good..I always hated those characters.

mosgza 8/27/2011 9:18:29 AM

Yeah, why no helmet?  I don't remember it featured in the movie, either, except at the beginning.

Can't please everyone...Hawkeye got his glasses.  The Hulk is being very passive and allowing himself a background pose.  Looks like a whole lot of fun.

As far as Giant Man and the Wasp...I'm REALLY disapointed that Marvel hasn't pushed the Ant Man movie forward according to plan.  Although, that said, maybe I am.  I remember it being said that  they were orginally going to make it a comedy.  My favorite comic series that featured the character followed the plot similar to The Incredible Shrinking Man.  Hank was without his powers and having to battle his way through a miniture wild.  As always, they tossed in the Puppet Master (why they gave him such a lame arch nemisis is beyond me.)  That said...and I love the characters...I'd almost prefer a Giant Man in the next Avengers.

This is the best promo art yet by far! Hulk lookin like he just wants to smash shit. My only concern is Hawkeye. But oh yeh this will be mental!

Beardeer 8/27/2011 10:03:20 AM

I wonder who will draw the adaptation to comic book form?

kinetoscope 8/27/2011 11:35:55 AM

Glad to see they have just made the decision to drop Giant Man or Ant Man. I know people will be pissed that they aren't staying true to history, but... it will make for a better story and movie.

Another attempt to sell more comics. I dont think I will be picking any of them up. I do pray that we get to see the helicarrier in this movie. I know folks wanted Hank and Janet to be in the flick but they are not really some of the better known Avengers. I think Hawkeye is a fan favorite and is going to be the bad boy of the team. I hope they wrote him to be more like the Ultimate version of the character.

InnerSanctum 8/27/2011 5:28:40 PM

Actually, they could easily have Hank and Janet in the film in cameo parts.  After all, in the Ultimates they are both top of their game scientists.

I'd have to say though, I doubt the general public is really all that familar with Hawkeye.  It should be interesting to see how the Black Widow and Hawkeye fight off outspace monsters.  But, this being Whedon, we can probably expect Buffy like antics.

littlemikey979, aren't they standing on the helicarrier? look closer.
