Baccano! may be coming to North America in Blu-ray form this year as it's been discovered that on the second volume of Durarara!! from Aniplex USA, there is a trailer for the release that states at the end that it will be coming to the US:

However, there was one trailer that peaked my interest. This trailer was for the Baccano Blu-ray Complete Collection and at the end of the trailer it said "coming soon in the US."

Baccano! is a sixteen episode series that's based off of light novels by the author behind Durarara. FUNimation has released the series on DVD in the US, it was one of their last single volume shows, and released a second complete collection of it as recently as this past December.

Plot summary: Don't let nobody tell you there's no future in a life of crime, because some rackets can last forever. But we'll get around to all that immortality jazz later. A mafia turf war is raging on the mean streets of the Big Apple, a place where regular joes bounce between backdoor booze joints and the breadline. But this caper ain't about a simple gangland brawl. It's about hoods who can't seem to die proper after catching a bullet or five between the eyes. Sadistic hit-men and the dames they love, mad bombers going boom, monsters going bump and soul sucking alchemists bootlegging an elixir of eternal life.

Just remember, Baccano! ain't about beginnings and ends. It's about the twists and turns, bub. Paths don't cross in this story - they collide. Every Dick and Jane plays the lead and it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Damn, I wish FUNi would relese it on Blu-ray instead. Its an upscale which is still better than FUNi's DVD quality, however I don't like paying high prices for upscales so I'll probably pass on this.

Also, Aniplex will likely use the same version as the Japanese which means it uses PCM stereo for the English audio which I hate.

If FUNi released this they'd have 5.1 TrueHD for the English audio and the price would probably be $40-$50.

formerroadie funi does have it in their catalog but amniplex is the one that made and distributed the anime. They contol the details on how it is distributed- at least that is how i think thier titles work. I was rather peeved at them for only realeasing rod complete in bluray only.

He's not the only one confused.  This makes no sense.  If Funimation has the distribution rights, why not let them release the series on Blu?  They released it on DVD rather well, I thought.  This is just strange.  But whatever the reason, I'm sure it will do just as well.

Calibur454:  They released them on Blu, but they were bareboned and the sound was reduced to 2.0  At least when Geneon released the ROD TV series, it was in 5.1   Mangle screwed up the translation (for the movie/OVA's) in a lot of places.  I'm actually wanting to see them fix their mistakes but the price is enough to keep me away from it for quite a while.
