Executive producer Alan Ball is returning to HBO with a new series called TRUE BLOOD, says Hollywood Reporter. This will be a return to the cable network since his last show Six Feet Under show ended in 2005. The new series will begin production this fall with actress Anna Paquin (Rogue from the X-Men franchise) in the leading role as an innocent waitress who can read minds coming into contact with a vampire. The show itself is based off the vampire book series, Southern Vampire, by author Charlaine Harris.

Plot Summary: True Blood takes place in a world in which vampires can buy Japanese-made synthetic blood. Their integration into a small Louisiana town causes quite a stir, and a love story ensues between a vampire, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), an innocent waitress who can read people's minds.

No word yet on how many first season shows have been ordered. Production will begin this fall.

Anna Paquin...what an inspired casting choice. She is so hot!!! Now, I could do without the completely unneccessary name change!!!

I love vampire shows and pretty much anythig having to do with them, but the premise of this show, seems kind of lame. Maybe it will be cool and a hit, but nothing said in the article really appeals to me except that its vampires.
Its like they took the premise of a regular show and some "genius" exec was like, "you know what would make this really freakin sweet? wait for it...... vampires!" Nelson you`re a genius, you`ve just earned yourself a raise.

Ponyboy, while I agree that this premise does seem lame, I loved Six Feet Under. Based on that I'm willing to give the show a chance. Right now, there's really nothing on HBO I really dig. They cancelled my favorite show, Carnivale, a while ago. Six Feet was the last show I really cared about. The Soprano's just went on too long for me, but that's probably just me.

I hear you, goldeneyez, I was soooo pissed when they canceled "Carnivale", and I just found out last night that they're calling the 2nd season of "Rome" the FINAL season. How many centuries was Rome around? How many seasons could they conceivably do? Grrrrr. I'm TRYING to enjoy "John From Cincinnatti" right now, but sometimes it seems like the writers are all holding meetings, comparing notes, asking themselves, "Ok, just how vague and weird can we make it THIS week?"

Alan Ball + Anna Paquin + Vampires = I'm there.

Hopefully the romantic element is limited to a third of the screen time;the interesting part is whether humans will trust them or accept them thanks to the synth blood. the synth blood supposedly removes any reason for the vamps to hunt and kill. But it is in their nature, they can't simply turn it off.

The vampire angle seems at least different from the two new vampire detective shows coming this fall.

I loved Six Feet Under, and HBO has done some varied and fantastic work with Carnivale, Rome, and Big Love in recent years.

This intrigues me much more than the psychic surfer boy story.

Well with it being on HBO, at least all of the gloves can come off as far as originality is concerned...this isn't network TV, so that gives it at least some credit...plus Anna Paquin is smokin...and grossly underused in the XMen saga....

I was looking at Blade II the other day...I forgot how much better this one was than III....just a thought.....

I'm not excited enough to order HBO, but this could be a rental, if the reviews are good.
