Welcome to another heart warming tale of a white ShinigamiContent:
(please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Ballad of the Shinigami second episode is the story of Mitsuki and his budding relationship with his classmate Yutaka. Mitsuki is saddened by the death of his older sister some years ago and feels that in some way he should have died instead of her as he is just an average student who doesn't excel at anything unlike his sister.
He sneaks into his school late one night to go swimming in the pool and as he starts to think of his sister, Momo and Daniel appear and tell him that he is going to die then they disappear. He then sees his classmate Yutaka at the edge of the pool, she tells him that she has just released some piranhas into the pool and that he should get out a.s.a.p! The next day pool class is cancelled and that appears to be Yutaka's agenda, she hates swimming for some reason and has several plans to have pool classes cancelled.
Mitsuki doesn't tell on her and from that they start to share an understanding where they talk and eventually Yutaka confesses she has feelings for him, Mitsuki not knowing how to react tells her what Momo has said and she takes this the wrong way. The real reason Momo had told him this and what connection this has to his older sister all become revealed with a satisfying heart warming conclusion.
I enjoyed this episode a lot more then the previous one, while the always present sense of sadness and dread about death still lingers, there was more Momo and with that we find out that she tends to meddle a lot in the affairs of both the dead and living. The relationship between to the main characters for this episode was also just as sweet as the previous characters and it's nice to see that the show so far isn't following a set pattern with a soul of the week type formula. In Summary:
Ballad of a Shinigami: Episode 02 Days As A Fish was a great follow up episode to the first with more of the title character and a less depressing or predictable story. The show is still crying out for more Momo but hopefully it will deliver more with each episode. While the first episode didn't thrill me all that much this one will keep me watching the rest of the series.
