Let the viral campaign begin? Maniacs will likely remember all the viral marketing that director Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. Pictures unleashed in the run-up to The Dark Knight. Tons of special features and unique web addresses, alot of it focusing on Heath Ledger's Joker wrecking havoc online before the film ever hit theaters. It looks like fans can expect the same type of campaign online for The Dark Knight Rises as well.
On the same day where the studio officially confirmed the start of production, the studio has launched a new website called TheDarkKnightRises.com. Initially thought as just a black page with chanting heard in the audio backgrounds, fans over at SuperHeroHype have already unlocked some of the mysteries, with audio spectrum saying #thefirerises. There's already a Twitter account by the same name. The fandom then unlocked a photo puzzle which points to the first officially release of Bane (Tom Hardy).
The trades also report that Matthew Modine, Tom Conti and Joey King have signed on in undisclosed roles. The three join their fellow co-stars Christian Bale, Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Nestor Carbonell, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence and Daniel Sunjata.

lol Wise, it should at least be interesting to read your thoughts for every story leading up to next July...Someone should chronicle it from now until then. It would make for a great feature story on those who wish to counterpoint the merits of Nolan's trilogy.

Also, Jarrod, never said it yet, but I appreciate everything you do at Mania. One of the few sites and places that actually seems like they listen to their users.......save for the occasional anthony hopkins's the rite or jason statham's mechanic posters causing us to all get the rage virus from 28 Days Later.

Thanks TMG. I was a reader here first and foremost back in the late '90s and I think all editors should be listening to their readers and more importantly, interacting with them. You have to know what your readers want. Plus, I'll admit that since I self-impose a rule that I shouldn't place my opinions in the news portion (I've certainly failed at that once or twice..), it's somewhat refreshing to read all of your opinions anyway. There may be weeklong spurts where I don't comment on a story but that doesn't mean I'm not reading your thoughts my Mania comrades.
Now excuse me while I go dig up a Rite or Mechanic poster to send TMG's way. :)
I just rented both rite and mechanic and it was nothin to write home about really. They were ok just nothin new..
On To Bane- OH YES YES YES- this looks so freaking sweet. I wonder though- I dont see the mechanism on Banes arm that gives him the syrum to get super freaky strong. Guess that may still be a work in progress???
