Late last year rumors circulated that Robert Rodriguez's big screen remake of 'Barbarella' was in trouble because Universal Studios was battling the director over his choice of leading ladies. That it, Rodriguez is intent on casting his girlfriend (and 'Planet Terror' star) Rose McGowan.
Today, MTV Movies Blog says not only is McGowan starring in the movie, but the project is significantly far along in pre-production.
"Half of the sets have been built. The costumes are done," McGowan told MTV adding that she's "even got my spaceships. I've got part of a spaceship built for me!"
The primary point of concern right now is the looming SAG strike. The studio doesn't want to start an expensive, high-profile project that it can't finish.
"['Barbarella'] wouldn't be able to be finished before June which is when the next strike might happen," McGowan said.
McGowan also talked to MTV about the hurtful nature of last year's rumor and her admiration for the original Jane Fonda version of 'Barbarella'.
