If an L.A. Confidential-style noir is right up your alley of preference for cop dramas, this project may interest you, says The Hollywood Reporter. Barry Levinson will direct Train, based on Pete Dexter's novel, for Lakeshore Entertainment. The screenplay was written by Allison Burnett, who is also writing the Fame reboot for Lakeshore.
Plot Concept: The 1950s-set Train centers on Miller Packard, a white sergeant in the San Diego Police Department, and a young black golf caddy named Lionel "Train" Walk, who harbors knowledge of a murder, and what happens when the characters collide. The mystery also explores themes of city politics and racism in midcentury Southern California.
Levinson is also directing the pilot for the upcoming update of "The Saint". The pilot, and series if it's picked up, will be toplined by Rome's James Purefoy. Producers Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana, writer Jorge Zamacona, feature producer Bill Macdonald, Roger Moore -- who played Templar in the 1960s British series -- and his son Geoffrey Moore are all involved in the project
