What They Say
Thanks to the machinations of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the age-old truce between the Kouga and the Iga clans is no more - and now a fight to the death will decide who will reign supreme.

Oboro has blinded herself in order to avoid having to kill Gennosuke, her lover - and her rival. Meanwhile, Gennosuke has urged the Iga clan to join him on a journey to Sunpu to find out the real motive behind Ieyasu Tokugawa's orders to fight. But the Iga has other plans.

The hirsute Nenki and the butterfly-wielding Hotarubi rush to assassinate Gennosuke, while Tenzen has sinister intentions for a defenseless Oboro. The epic battle of blood and betrayal continues!

The Review
Gennosuke has returned to the Kouga Clan and he's pissed! He believes Oboro is behind the treachery that claimed the lives of his brethren and he needs to make up for it. Gennosuke sends a challenge to the Iga, meet the Kouga on the road to Sunpu where Ieyasu awaits. This will be a battle between the five remaining Kouga and the seven Iga. Being a battle between ninja clans means there will be no end to the treacherous attacks, the first of which robs Gennosuke of his sight and ability to use his ultimate attack. This leads to the blind Kyouma finally revealing his secret technique. Hmm, I didn't see that one coming.

Clan against clan isn't the only war to overcome in this volume, for the leaders of both clans face dangers within. Gennosuke is forced to fight off Kagerou as her love for him becomes more than she can control. She loves Gennosuke so much she wants to die with him, and since her secret technique is poison breath, their union would ultimately end with Gennosuke's death. For Oboro, the challenge to her ability to choose the direction of her life comes from Tenzen. Since Oboro would rather die than fight Gennosuke, Tenzen has decided to forcefully make Oboro his wife. This would catapult him into the position of Iga Clan Chief and stab Gennosuke's emotional heart.

Multiple ninja face-offs take place in this volume with only one duelist walking away in each. Hotorubi and her butterflies against Saemon and his shapeshifting technique. Nenki with his super-powered nose hairs versus the blind Kyouma. And finally, Gyoubu with his camouflage technique fighting to the death with Tenzen and his ??? technique.

The grades remain the same for this title, as the storytelling chugs along towards its inevitable ending and the printing quality remains good. I also have to say that I love the second color page depicting Hotorubi flying through the air surrounded by her butterflies, it's both beautiful and dynamic.
