One of the things that stuck out to me is the control that his mother has over him.  She seems to want him all to herself and anytime he tries to break away, she does something to reel him back in.  Clearly he wants to be "normal" but "Norma", is anything but that.  And yes, I can see how a murder cover-up at his age is already setting the seeds for the eventual Norman Bates monster.  I think what they are trying to show us, is that he's a victim of his surroundings.  It's almost like she killed that guy just to trap him for a little bit longer...hey, you can't go to track and things...we have a dead body to deal with.  The manipulation is coming through crystal clear.

You mentioned the party, but the party was not the thing that sticks out.  The way Norman acts at the party is what I noticed...very reluctant to do anything...despite being popular to an extent.

So, who is the master at the Bates Motel?

"Farmiga is exceptionally good as Norma"

I'm interested, but not hooked yet.  I wanna know more about the journal.  I also would like to be shocked...  I wanna see a sexual relationship between Norman and his mother.  I think that would REALLY be a great twist and add to Norman's broken morals.  I think the show has potential, which I didn't feel for the overhyped 'The Following'.  I agree with the whole article, so let's see how the show progresses...
