BATMAN (1989)
By Craig D. Reid
June 10, 2001
Tim Burton's BATMAN is a dark and intense variation of Bob Kane's comic book that immediately captures your attention because initially you're not sure if Batman is a hero or a deranged vigilante. The film's outrageous sets, gadgets and costumes hold your attention as Burton's visual flair weaves the film together. An interesting twist is that the villain Joker, played over-the-top by Jack Nicholson, is more dominating than the hero. Of note is Anton Furst's Oscar-winning production design.
