Producer Charles Roven told SCI FI Wire that "the cast is signed on for a sequel, the script is in the works, new cast members are being discussed and the only delay is an OK by director Christopher Nolan."

Roven states that Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Katie Holmes and Gary Oldman have all signed on for the sequel to BATMAN BEGINS. The producer said it is possible the film could move ahead without Nolan if he doesn't come on board but Roven said, 'it was a spectacular experience with Chris [Nolan], and he kept everyone involved and was very collaborative.'

Didn't I read earlier they weren't going to use Katie Holmes in the sequel. Maybe it's just a cameo to kill off her character.

Just because she is signed on doesn't mean they will use her.

I heard too that Katie Holmes may or may not be in the film. As far as directors are concerned, I think that they could still find a pretty good candidate besides just Chris Nolan. I more curious than anything though to see who is going to play the Joker.

For what it is worth, the last internet rumor I read on the sequel was that it might not focus on the Joker at all, despite that scene in Batman Begins. There was some thought that it would be set a few years later, with a more "established" Batman, possibly using a villain not seen in the previous series.

And, I really hope they kill off Katie Holmes' character. Painfully.

Someone mentioned this in a previous post and I agree, I think they should try for Mark Hamill as The Joker. That would completely flip everyone's world.

I personally think they should: stick with Christopher Nolan as director, not use Katie Holmes as a major character, and go ahead and have it be the Joker with the events they set up with Batman Begins. I would greatly prefer that they do story arcs instead of stand-alone, disjointed movies as was the case with the previous Batman franchise. Anything they can do to erase the memory of the previous franchise is a good thing.

They should kill off Katie Holmes and all future love interests. Clay face should come and wipe out any possible mates for Bruce Wayne. Thus making him angrier (a more driven Batman) and the subsequent sequels more interesting and focused so that he can spend more time fighting villains and less time thinking about how he's going to balance a girl and his night job.

ARGGGH!!! NO MORE KATIE HOLMES!!! NEEDS TO DIE!!! Actually the only reason that I want her to die is that her character is lame and she needs to make way for Harvey Dent, who NEEDS to be in this film. As far as the plot for this next film is concerned, introduce the Red Hood robberies, follow the plot of THE KILLING JOKE as far as kidnapping Gordon and trying to prove the point that one bad day can drive a person insane, have Batman as more of a detective and show flashbacks of him learning criminology and studying law (with Harvey Dent), have Batman save Gordon and arrest Joker, have Joker tried by Dent, have Dent's face scarred by Joker, end with Dent becoming Two-Face and Joker proving his point!!!!

That was up on CHUD yesterday and contains a fair amount of information that goes well with this article. Roven apparently said there is an "option" for all the cast to return, including Holmes. That does not mean she will, but certainly could.

I hope Nolan comes back, but that they hire a fight choreographer for hand to hand combat in the next one.
