Batman Begins' Tone Influencing WOLVERINE?

Leading star Hugh Jackman has finally talked to the media about his upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine and it seems the film is getting inspiration in "tone" from a previously released superhero movie. Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. The actor talked to MTV about the upcoming origin tale of the clawed superhero and here's what he had to say.

"We are dealing with a character who is probably one of the darker comic book characters ever created," Jackman said. "The movie has a lot of fun elements, but there are layers of pain and darkness to this character."

"Tonally, I would put it more in the 'Batman Begins' sort of realm," he added. "That's sort of where we're headed."

When asked whether he would return for more Wolverine films, he was matter of fact about it. He said this one would have to do well (fans would need to want it) and then, he would be interested in coming back.

how do you get "inspired by batman begins" from jackmans' comments?

By the fact that the leading actor says the director is keeping the tone of the film in line with the tone we've seen in Batman Begins??

Batman Begins' success and fan approval set a major precedent for studios and directors in restarting and working with the origins of superhero characters.

It's understandable that other directors will want to follow that mold.

Batman Begins, The Dark Knight should influence all of cinema, not just superhero flicks. Singer should pay attention to what Nolan is doing. Batman owns youuuuuuu. Joker gonna burn that face Harvey, look out!

I thought Wolverine was kind of "dark" in the X-Men movies, but I like that they're dealing with the pain in Wolverine's life. I would imagine that if someone was as old as Wolverine and had been through the wringer like he has been (using his comic book origins) in his personal life, that person would be pretty "dark" indeed.

The X-Men films were sort of dark, especially the second. If anything Nolan took a page from those films. I know there are a lot of fans of Nolan's Batman and that bias is clouding people's thinking. Wolverine was already dark and by portraying the character accordingly doesn't mean it was influenced by Batman Begins even if Hugh says so. This portrayal began with the first X-Men, way before Batman Begins. And let's not make Batman Begins out to be the biggest success in the superhero genre either, both X2 and 3 and all the Spidey flicks were bigger, as was the superior Batman with Keaton. He didn't start anything new or set any major precedent that wasn't already set by any of the previous superhero films.........Again I'm not against Nolan but IMO he's getting too much praise for a Batman film that was good, not excellent, and definitely not loyal enough to the book.

I don't think Batman Begins is special because it was dark. What makes the film special is that it is more in touch with our reality. We see Bruce's personal struggle, and we are led to believe that these events could happen in real life; whereas the original film series focused in the more fantastic elements. The Spidey films are another example of movies more focused on the fantastic elements. But, since we are talking comics, fantasy definitely has to be involved ...

I didn't think the X-films were overly dark, compared to Batman Begins. Logan's character is definitely darker than most. I think to have a movie focused solely on Logan would have to be fairly dark in tone. Good move, IMHO......By the way, any chance we can get that Winterbirth ad on the main page to go across the *ENTIRE* screen? I'm getting tired of only having to scroll across half the screen to find the content.

wiseguy..I can't agree that Nolan's getting too much praise for Batman Begins. While it may not have been as financially successful as some of the movies you mentioned, Nolan's Batman was probably the first "superhero" movie to try and ground the character's world in a realistic universe. I do agree with you about Keaton's Batman though; he'll always be my favorite....What are your top five favorite superhero genre movies? I'd have to go with Superman, Batman, X-Men 2, Spiderman and Spiderman 2. I want to put Justice League The New Frontier in there, but stuck with live action movies. I have a feeling that after I see Iron Man tomorrow night my list will be changing.
