May 6th, 2016: Marvel vs DC - NOW CANCELLED
© DC Comics/ Marvel

Warner Brothers has officially changed the release date of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film, which was initially scheduled to go head to head with Marvel’s Captain America 3, was scheduled for May 6th, 2016. Now the film will be released on March 25, 2016.

Variety, our source for the story, sited no reason given by Warner Brothers for the change. Our own Rob Vaux sited April as being the new tent pole month for the studios. Captain America: The Winter Solider is proof that it is. The end of March gets a jump on those April 2016 releases. This now puts Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice against Brett Ratner’s Beverly Hills Cop. I would expect that film and any other to move their release dates.

What do you think Maniacs? Did Guardians of the Galaxy signify Marvel’s power at the box office? There was an untested/ unknown property and it is cleaning up for the studio. Did Warner Brothers do the safe thing and move the date? Is Marvel unstoppable? Who was making plans to see both in the same day? However, which were you going to see first? Sound off below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice features Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy.

So Dawn of Justice will be labeled as blinking first with respect to the showdown with Captain America 3, with regards to the release date.  Fine with me, I don't care as long as I get to see this movie a few weeks earlier, whoo hoo!

I actually think this is a smart move on WBs part.  Really liking some of the decisions they have been making lately.  It's been a while since Ihave been able to say that. :)

Two for flinching!

Wait, am I reading this right. So they moved it out 9 months because they are scared of Captain America 3? Wow. You are scared DC. Either that or production is going slower than expected. Trate you sure about those dates? I thought Capt 3 was a 2016 release also.

I don't think my body will be ready by March, I was practicing for May.

Iazarus, that was a typo on our part. Habit when typing dates.

Not surprised but I was just saying that I expected Cap to move back to a smilar date as Cap 2 since it proved so succesful.

I'm with you hanso but I'm ready now. To finally see the birth of the JL makes my mouth water but my body is ready now

I just wonder why WB needs to wait until 2016 for this film?  They are already filming, should be summer of 2015 but WB sucks.

Wiseguy 8/6/2014 3:12:00 PM

Lots of cgi and post production work, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait Snyder is a master.

Saw on deadline DC's release dates. They dates scheduled up to 2020 and like 2 to 3 films every year from 2016.

I'd like to know what's the second film they have scheduled for Aug 2016, maybe it's the first Justice League movie. I know that was rumor not long ago that it would shoot back to back with DoJ.

Geez... wake me up when it's 2016.

I got you vio, I got you. Sleep soundly.
