Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation. have confirmed the voice cast for their upcoming animated adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One. Heat Vision reports that Bryan Cranston, Ben McKenzie, Eliza Dushku and Katee Sackhoff will voice the main roles in the upcoming release. Co-directors Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu are sharing the duties behind the camera, based on a script by Tab Murphy.

The 12th entry in the successful series of DC universe animated original features adapts the landmark four-issue story written by Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli that first appeared in 1987 on the heels of Miller's seminal work, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

Plot Concept: In Year One, a young Bruce Wayne is first starting out as a costumed vigilante. He creates an early bond with Lieutenant James Gordon, whose importance in the tale makes it as much as Gordon's story as Wayne's. Cranston is playing Gordon, while McKenzie is Wayne/Batman. Dushku voices Catwoman, while Sackhoff is Detective Sarah Essen, a Gordon love interest.

This is one of my most favorite Batman stories ever told! Frank Miller in his prime. I am psyched for this. I thought for sure "Mask of the Phantasm" would be the closest we'd get to this.

Also I hate to do it but...

I won't post this on this thread again, but I'm trying to win a t-shirt contest, and I could use your votes. My main competitor has just started using dirty trick, so I need to get support anywhere I can. This is Gauleyboy, not a robor. I need votes @

It's a $500 cash prize and this starving artist could use the money. I wouldn't post for it here, but I found the 2nd place guy posting on random web sites for votes. At least I've been friends with you guys for 4 years now!

Thanks!

Not complaining, but... Why this one instead of 'Batman: Dark Knight'?  I would've thought thought that, being Nolan is handling the early Batman concept, DC would've avoided being redundant.  I mean, great story, no question, but....

One thing the article failed to mention is that it will be premiering at this year's San Diego Comic Con. I'll be in line to watch this one for sure!

Gauley, gauley, gauley...I voted for you just now because I've seen it on every story today. Will you shut up now? :)

Alright, Gauleyboy, you have my vote, my friend!

Heisenberg!!

Gauley, I ain't voting unless some of that prize $$ finds its way into my pocket.  Sarafin's vote might be free but not me sir :)

I actually though Sackhoff would be playing Catwoman, her voice seems to just be more of a fit for the character than Dusku...

iceknight52 4/20/2011 4:53:13 PM

Got my vote sir.

its been a long time but i dont remember if catwoman was ever in year one. If it is just a cameo of some sort i think thats ok- I may be wrong though its been years since i read year one.

@whiteandnerdy75- give it a little more time. when year one does well in sales for dc- and it will- more frank miller stories will see the light of day. I can promise you that one and the dark night returns will be at the top of the list, I wouldnt mind seeing a adaption of the Hush Story line myself- or the Bruce wayne murderer story line as well. That one is where a villian in his past is able to frame wayne for murder and he has to use batman to figure out who had done it while bruce wayne is on the lamb. I cant remember the name of the story line though

just this once Gauleyboy, i'll vote for another maniahead!
