The Review!
If you are new to the Anime scene, and if you will enjoy futuristic stories about cyborgs/tech, this movie is for you. It's one you should not miss. This movie is a delight to watch. Just like Chris Beveridge, this is my third time owning this title. What can I say, the designs of these characters are impressive! The art work is beautiful. The writer did a great job in telling a story and bringing across the realism of human emotion with these characters, was a superb.

Let's get down to business: In my opinion, this dvd was packaged pretty well. The cover of the box is definitely different from what I've seen in the past with this title. I was pleased that they took snip-its from the movie and placed it on the cover of the box and created something new. The cover is very colorful and eye catching. The back was also eye catching and giving enough info to get you interested in the movie. The one complaint I have about the packaging of this dvd was the button which locks this dvd disc down. As a collector, I prefer an easy button mechanism like ones resembling the yin-yang symbol, when pressed, it releases the disc without any hassle. Well, unfortunately this box has a button with hinges on either side; so to release the disc, I had to use my finger nail to press these hinges down then pull the disk out. I nearly torque and flexed my disc on my first attempt to release the dvd from the box.
The menu selection on this dvd was pretty plain and simple, which was easy to navigate around. The movie was very clear and colorful. It was good transfers as far as color is concern; but it was hazy here and there in some parts of the movie. There were parts of the movie that looked to me that ADV had trouble with. For example, when Gally came to rescue Ido from the two criminals in the alley, it was there that she paused for a fraction of a second when she threw a punch at the big cyborg. The same thing happened right before Yugo got slain by the flat hat bounty hunter; when he was running into the courtyard. Come to think of it, this is my second title purchased from ADV that had this same problem. My first dvd from ADV was Tekken. Actually it was a little worse in Tekken; in which it repeated a scene, like a broken record player.

The most disappointing part of Battle Angel dvd was that when the credit is suppose to scroll at the end of each episode, the screen went pitch black. Even though it was black, the song was playing in the background. To make sure it wasn't my dvd player, I went back a chapter and forward it to the credit, only then was it working fine. Hmmm? ..argh! This also happened to the credits in the second episodes. Even though I was slightly disappointed by a few minor aspects mentioned above, and the "wee-bit" over acting/screaming of the English dubbed Gally, overall, Battle Angel on dvd was pretty good and would recommend it.
