Director Michael Bay has posted a short "Happy New Year" message over at his official website, the message pertaining to his acknowledgement of fan feedback in regards to Transformers 2. Paramount and Dreamworks still plan to have the sequel in theaters in the summer of 2009. All principal parties are coming back on board. As I said yesterday, the original film had the 3rd highest gross of 2007, pulling in 319.2 mil here in the states. It was the 5th highest global release with 706.5 mil.

Here's the message..

For the millions of viewers that logged on this year I want to thank you for the support. Transformers 2 will be coming soon. The new robots are really really unique and there are a lot of them this time.

Transformers 2 will hit theaters June 26, 2009.

sweet! Huge fan of the original toys, huge fan of the new ones. Loved TF-1 bring on the Decepticons!

Well I'm glad to hear it. Transformers had plenty of critics, but I had a blast watching it. I'm sure TF2 will be just as fun.

Transformers was great, I had an absolute blast watching it as well. I guess i walked into it with the right expectations (the old cartoon, Michael Bay) and got exactly what i expected and more. If there are more bots in the next one here is who i want to see!
Autobots
Cliffjumper
Prowl
Mirage
Jet Fire
Sunstreak
Dinobots, especially Grimlock
Ultra Magnus
Decepticons
Soundwave (if they can get him right)
Constructicons and Devastator.
In fact that would be a sweet story, Decepticons implement the combiner Devastator to destroy the Autobots, and the bots respond with the Dinobots to stop it. Long story short, I will be their for this one.

For me Transformers was a complete and utter travesty. From its absurdly dumb excuse for a plot, to its excessive commercialism and my personal favorite...those repetitive sentimentally tacky moments that Bay just peppers in his movies. If Michael Bay stops using special effects as a substitute for story structure then he will have my respect again.
Some people loved this movie and that's cool, we're all here to share ideas and opinions. The movie was popular and it did make a lot of money for a lot of people. But then again so do Nascar and pro-wrestling, but not everyone thinks those are the shizznittle-bam either. Just because it's commercial, flashy, popular, does it mean you have a quality product.
Knowing Bay and his tendency to sell out, I might guess he will rip off Jurassic Park and throw the Dinobots into the next one. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a live action Grimlock make an appearance. Hell, why not have Sector 7 combine some dino DNA with an autobot to make Grimlock!! Then you can have both sides fight to keep him in check! That sounds retarded enough for Bay's standards. Seriously though, as long as it doesn't look too much like a Gundam-lizard hybrid, then I'm sure they will cook up a decent Grimlock(barring there isn't some way to commercialize his appearance).

We need Megatron back with Frank Welker as voice. Cut out more human stuff. We don't need no stinking humans!

Sweet, more robots and less humans is what this sequel needs.
Galvatron and Dinobots for these next ones, cause you know a third will be made also.

Had a great time with the first, so looking forward to the sequel, but... for me, don't need them to add a TON of other robots. Lets face it, there is only so much screen time and the more robots you add, the less time you can devote to each. I thought the mix was about right this past time, although I would have liked to have had a chance for a BIT more Decepitcon "characterization" (esp re Starscream and Megatron). In some ways, though, the lack of Decepticon personalization made them more menacing...

I could see adding in (maybe) Constructicons - the combinination to the enormous Devastator would look great on screen! And perhaps one or two Dinobots on the Autobot "side"...

I think there should be only a few human characters and more robots on both sides. That was the main problem with the first movie, too many dull human characters. Don't bring back John Turturro or Anthony Anderson. Their characters were so annoying that I wished their characters were killed off. Make the movie to be about Transformers not human characters we don't care about.
