Commercial/music video director Sam Bayer has signed on to direct the action-thriller Fiasco Heights, says The Hollywood Reporter. Universal Pictures is handling distribution while Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing via their Platinum Dunes. This won't be the first Platinum Dunes feature for Bayer with the two already teaming up for the remake of the cult hit Near Dark. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink are executive producing via their Benderspink banner alongside Mason Novick.

Plot Concept: In the project, which also has shades of film noir, a gunman returns to the crime-ridden city of Fiasco Heights and teams with a degenerate gambler/private eye on the run from a syndicate to look for a beautiful femme fatale and a mysterious briefcase. Kyle Ward wrote the most recent draft.

This sounds pretty good. With the right cast it might be decent.

Agreed. I love film noir.

I love Near Dark. Great flick, especially back when it came out. Stole part of the cast from Aliens with 3 or 4 appearing in both. Can't say I'm opposed to the remake, afterall it's been 20+ years and it only has a small following as far as I can tell. But really hope they can somehow improve on it and its characters, especially Paxton's character, who was great.

Hmm. Not much there in the summary, but at least it doesn't sound like 50 other movies right off the bat. Have to hear some more before I get excited about it, but sounds ok so far.
