Bayona Helming Twilight's ECLIPSE?

No Drew Barrymore in sight.

Looks like the Drew Barrymore rumors reported a few weeks back were not true. Summit Entertainment has instead signed Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona to helm their third installment of The Twilight Saga's Eclipse. Bayona, a protege of Guillermo del Toro, directed the Spanish-language horror-thriller The Orphanage and is likewise set to direct the thriller Hater, which is another Del Toro production.

Production is about to roll on the second film, The Twilight Saga's New Moon, with director Chris Weitz behind the camera. He couldn't lead the third installment because the two productions will overlap with the release windows of both films being only eight months apart.

Plot Concept: In "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse," Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death.

The Twilight Saga's New Moon will hit theaters November 20, 2009.

The Twilight Saga's Eclipse will hit theaters June 30, 2010.

Okay...well I'm glad Barrymore is gone, but their choice of director(s) is still an unusual one.

I've never seen (or in fact heard of) anything by this Spaniard, but it sounds like they may be hoping to up the spooky parts (if there are any) and so on.

And if that is the case they're probably trying to get guys in the theater, which means they're becoming evil, greedy bastards. Even more so when this madness first started.

Wadda ya know, it's a Twilight thread so it means Starlight is here :)  Dude seriously, how come you always post on this stuff but not on everything else?

This dude can only be a good thing, this guy is tight with Del Toro so ya know he has to have at least some talent.

Still haven't seen the first one, waiting for it to hit blu ray later this month.

...and I was wondering where you were, Hanso, during Rob's latest DVD Shopping Bag. The word 'Batman' was featured predominantly over and over.

In fact I posed the question "if you say Batman three times in a row, does Hanso appear?"

No Twilight isn't the only thing I'm interested in.

(I hope this doesn't seem indicative of me only liking Twilight, etc.)

I was on the Prince of Persia thread recently, usually on DVD Shopping, there's a comment I left on the Howard The Duck review, etc.

I'm also possibly missing other things as I'm revising\updating my own scripts (namely Summertime Blues -- shameless self promotion there) while I start gathering up a fresh list of agents and such to promote to.

Batman! Batman! Batman! We Conjure Hanso!

lol, yea I saw your comment today on that Batman Anthology thread, hence my Twilight thread comment :)

I know you post on other things, just messin wit ya, but you do seem to have a weird fixation with Vanessa Hudgens ( I agree buwahaha) and Twilight.

I guess the third installment is the only one I'll catch on Netflix read "At all."  This guy is the shit - if you haven't seen The Orphanage you are missing out.

Hey, it worked!

You know, I'm sitting here polishing the query letter for "Sweet Dreams - A Sandman's Story" and part of me is thinking put it up here and see what the maniacs thinks.

The more rational part of my brain says most maniacs don't like to get involved any more.

Ah, what the hell: here Hanso, see what you make of this. It's just a promotional letter, but it gives you the basic flavor of a script that runs 139 pages long. (I oughta get Rob involved with this as well.)

In 1953, a young man, Mathon, is injured in an automobile accident outside his high school dance. As he lays comatose in the emergency room, an elderly Sandman arrives with a magical Egyptian Mau. The Sandman appoints Mathon to succeed him and, by placing a bag of magic sand in Mathon's arms, a new lease on his life is ensured as the original Sandman fades away forever.

The following night, at 9 p.m. sharp, Mathon reluctantly accepts his role as a Sandman, fighting dark, ferocious creatures known as "mares," which prey on the sleeping people of the world. He also encounters colleagues in the form of Kieran and the mysterious Starlight Guard who assist in the nightly battle against the mares.

With the passing of time, Mathon becomes restless and can't get the past out of his mind. He is forced to watch the girl he loved move on with her life as she finds someone new to spend it with. The remnants of a life he once loved is fading away. But as life goes on, the mysteries remain: there are places where Sandmen cannot enter, and Kieran ultimately fades away one night after touching the blood of a fallen mare.

Now, fifty years later, Mathon has more questions and few answers. And his time is running out. Becca has died. Nothing is left of the world he once knew. And a new Sandman must be chosen to replace Mathon himself.

Micah, an intelligent, yet arrogant, young man who works at the local planetarium, is the grandson of Becca. On his final night, Mathon comes to and recruits Micah, but deliberately keeps the bag of sand from him to complete the succession. He then transfers his memories to Micah, who will relive them in nightmares and daydreams until he resolves the issues of an unknown existence that haunted Mathon until his final moments.

Who is Becca?  Becca is only named at the end of your stuff bro, why does it matter that she died?

StarlightGuard 3/12/2009 11:03:47 AM

sorry 'bout that...I know the scripts backwards and forward which must mean I automatically assume agents and others know who's who

Mathon and Becca were dating in 53 when the car ran him over

he spends 53 - 59 watching her grow into a young woman, and eventually she gets over him

she gets married, and has the kids, and the grandkids.....Micah obviously....she dies in the modern times, Mathon's about to die himself....so his only link between the generations is Micah....etc...

Becca is Mathon's last connection to a lost youth...when she's gone, it's a sort of final straw

no matter how many letters I've written over the years, it never seems to get easier.....how the hell does anyone compress 139 pages into one short page?

it all makes sense if you've read the entire script....trust me on that

hanso 3/12/2009 11:22:29 AM

Sounds pretty good, I guess all you gotta fix is putting Becca somewhere in your letter before you mention she dies.  Maybe at the beginning you can say Mathon and Becca his girlfriend, were in accident, or somethin like that.

VANESSA HUDGENS! RRRAAWWWRRR!!!

sorry, that's my female Tourettes

hey hanso, I assume you've seen Batman: Brave and the Bold on TV....

now, you tell me this: how the hell is it Diedrich Bader was cast as Batman?

sure Bader was hilarious in the Drew Carey Show, etc., but he's not exactly Bat-material

thanks hanso...I post all these samples every so often because....well...I need an outside opinion every so often
