Jeff Smith, creator of Bone, discussed the character's big screen possibilities at his panel during this year's Comic-Con International.
Smith first pointed out that the movie deal with Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures had expired, "They wanted to make it a lot younger...cute, hip, and empty."
Smith credits his well written contracts for his ability to leave the deal while still retaining control of the decision making process involved in the development of a film, "I was trying to do what I wanted and do what they wanted."
One of the contributing factors to the deal's demise was when the studios suggested he insert a pop song from a teen performer like Britney Spears or N'SYNC in exchange for a large sum of money.
Ultimately however, Smith's main objectives now are to finish the last six issues of the Bone comic series before refocusing on developing the story for film. He noted that he has had several serious offers and that the door was still open on many of them.
