Weinstein Company hires Brad Copeland to script Knight Rider

After a few failed re-starts on the small screen, it seems that Knight Rider is one step closer to becoming visualized on the silver screen instead. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that The Weinstein Company has hired Brad Copeland to flesh out a screenplay for a feature film version of the KITT adventures. Copeland's previous writing credits include "Arrested Development", Yogi Bear and Wild Hogs. His name has also been alongside rumored reboots of "Gilligan's Island."

The Times reports: The new “Knight Rider” is being conceived as a somewhat higher-budget, more action-oriented movie than Weinstein's typical prestige fare. The company bought the rights from Glen Larson, the prolific creator of many a TV action series, including the hit NBC show about Michael Knight and his flying Trans Am. David Hasselhoff, who of course played Knight in the original "Knight Rider," has been making noise about wanting to be a part of the new movie.

Though a rebooted TV series ran on NBC for just 17 episodes beginning in 2008, the market for a new movie could be abundant, what with the global take of the sixth and most recent “Fast & Furious” movie at $645 million and counting.

Thoughts? Sound off below..

I think "the Hoff" is interested in being in ANY film, Knight Rider or no.

what would they do to make this big screen worthy? Make the car a transformer? I don't see it succeeding.

One favorite moment from the old series: an episode where Michael and KITT were covering some miles at speeds well above the posted limit. The car literally jumps over a stopped police cruiser at blinding speed.

Cop 1: WTH was that?

Cop 2: looked like a Pontiac.

One more thing: what model car would be the next KITT and who should voice him/it?

It is also rumoured that when you get your ticket for the movie

you will get a bottle of vasaline.

Hopefully we'll get to see Michael Knight lying on the floor while eating a cheeseburger in a drunken stupor.  That would be sweet.

As much as Peter Cullen is Optimus Prime, William Daniels is KITT. To use anyone else would be disappointing.

That being said, I don't think the market would support a Knight Rider movie.

Why are they even doing this? As cool as Knight Rider was, there's just no relevance to it anymore.
That's why the tv reboot didn't work.

It's an out-moded idea now.

2008..? are we expected to time travel, now?

BunyonSnipe 6/26/2013 10:55:17 AM

I never really saw the appeal of Knight Rider, it was always ridiculous how somehow a CAR managed to get that pube haired imbecile out of tricky situations...

BunyonSnipe 6/26/2013 10:56:43 AM

For me Airwolf, Blue Thunder and yes... STREET HAWK were more interesting!
