Strange incidents are happening at a local college, as demons run rampant on the student body!
Awakening of the Beast
A new woman has appeared at 19-year-old Beast Hunter Mina's college. She appears to be the daughter of a wealthy industrialist, but deep within her lurks an evil unseen by human eyes. She seduces and destroys every male she comes across. But when she targets one of Mina's friends, she's gone too far...
In the violent city of Tokyo, Man and Beast battle for survival as the demonic Beasts strive to seduce and enslave every woman that crosses their paths. Born into a family of vampires, 19-year-old Mina has vowed to hunt-down and destroy all of the sex-starved Beasts. Together with her friends and her Beast-Hunter Sword, Mina must track-down a human-formed Beast that has infiltrated her college. The Review!Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this disc in its original language of Japanese. Being a few years old and being hentai, there's not a heck of a lot in the way of directionality here though the forward soundstage does sound fairly nice for what it does do. Dialogue is clear and we couldn't find any noticeable dropouts during the program.Video:
For the most part, the show looks pretty decent but suffers from what a lot of CPM's hentai releases do. Which is mostly a soft feel to it that generates a decent amount of jaggies during panning sequences and some noticeable macroblocking in backgrounds and skylines. Colors are decent and aren't oversaturated, but look a fair bit dull, especially in scenes that look too soft. The second episode has a larger number of scenes that look grainy also a fair bit dirtier in terms of nicks and scratches.Packaging:
While the show may be fairly generic in its animation styling, the cover artwork, both front and interior, is pretty nice but suffers from a poor coloring job. The designs look great, especially the detailed one on the interior in black and white. The back cover doesn't show muhc beyond a dark tower and gives a rundown of the show and its features. So it's really just the trio of women on the front that have to sell this hentai series. The interior lists the chapter selections for the two episodes and the cast listings, again with the Japanese actors bowing out of being known.Menus:
The menus are what you typically get from CPM with the only annoying thing being that the audio doesn't start up when the menu starts up, but has a brief delay. This caused us to turn up the volume thinking it was too low only to be blown away once it kicked in. The menus are typical of what you get with some animation from the show playing and the menu selections designed in a style that fits with the show. Access times are nice and fast and things are laid out as you'd want them.Extras:
With our lack of interest in the show, we only skimmed the meager extras, which are what you usually expect with the image gallery and the storyboards to animation section.Content:

Beast City, originally title Sex Demon Metropolis with the subtitle of Vampire Madonna, is a two part piece of hentai that in the end is entirely forgettable. The show takes place in the year labeled "201X" in a slightly twisted looking future city. The show features as its lead character Mina, a "Draculon" which is the fancy way of saying vampire, who along with her two sisters fight bad demons that show up in the city while filling their own need for blood. The girls are good in that they don't turn anyone, but rather suck blood from their victims in their sleep after they've aroused them sufficiently. The victim doesn't wake up during this process though, which is admittedly something different from the norm.
On the other side of this is a bad demon who dresses snazzy and has a group of women tied up in ropes to make up his seating arrangements. The story focuses on this character, Karma, who gives various underlings some demon ability to extract endorphins from people, since that's what he feeds on. Endorphins of course show up in high quantities in the human brain during sex, which is just ever so convenient. There's a bit more to his plot in general, but it's pretty weak all things considered.
The usual things show up throughout the two episodes, with demons chasing down girls and attacking them, some rope based domination, general lesbian scenes and other standards people come to expect in their hentai. Beast City unfortunately just offers no real hook in keeping the viewer interested. In fact, it took us three viewings of the first episode to finally progress to the second one, since we kept drifting off during the first.
With as much hentai as is getting released these days, Beast City feels like a visit back to the old days of hentai releases when all that would come out is shows like this. Thankfully there's more variety today, but if the demon stuff is all you're looking for, you may get a kick out of this one.
