The guys over at Latino Review are reporting that screenwriter Stuart Beattie (G.I Joe, Australia) has completed a new spec script, based off the Bungie best selling videogame Halo. They have also said it's not an April Fool's Day joke because that immediately sprang to mind. Fox, Universal and Peter Jackson were very close to getting the ball rolling on a big screen treatment with Neil Blomkampf was attached to direct but it fell back to development hell after screenwriter and budget issues.

Will this new spec by Beattie be picked up? That's the question. The site says the new spec is called Halo: Fall of Reach, which is based on the
based on the Eric Nylund novel of the same name.

WB is gamblin 200 mil on Larklight which as far as I know doesn't have the cachet or name recognition of Halo. I know there is a stigma with films based on video games but IMO this is a risk worth taking. Especially when you have 2 studios splitting the cost. I just hope Microsoft and PJ don't settle and make the movie they really want. I think this could be great and if PJ is still attached as producer it'll give me more faith in the final product.

Screw this Halo news, when is the God of War film going to be announced? Why isn't anyone working on that script!!!!!!!!!!!???
Kratoooooooosssssssss!

What the hell happened to the Metroid film that apparently had John Woo attached?

Metroid is a garbage game that used to be cool in the 80s. I for one would love to see Halo and God of War on the big screen. Come to think of it....that guy slated to play Jason looks like he could be a good candidate.

Metroid garbage and only cool in the 80's? I beg to differ.

Super Metroid was an awesome game, and it was released in 1994.

The Metroid Prime series is also very good and that was released in 2002, when it made the jump to the GameCube and now currently in the Wii. The games always get good reviews and Metroid is one of Nintendo's top franchises.

I can't wait for a Halo film to get off the ground. And if they really do one based on Fall of Reach, that would be a great start to a potentially amazing franchise of films, especially with JP still on board.

At least people who aren't into Halo, and even gamers who haven't read the novel, will get to see John's story from the very beginning. They could even throw a little Contact Harvest in their to show the start of the war. Unless they save that for a prequel, which I doubt it since it wouldn't have Master Chief in it.

I sure hope this goes ahead. I loved those shorts that Blomkampf did. Those were pretty sweet and they were only a few minutes long. I can't imagine how great the feature will turn out.

I agree hanso. Metroid was, and still is, one of the best video game franchises from Nintendo. I'd love to see a CGI heavy Sci-Fi version of Samuses journey through space and her battles with the Metroids. There is a TON of content there to play with. Not to mention that she's a total babe (as far as video games go).
The other video game franchise I'd like to see is Zelda. But I know that Nintendo would probably do it all kiddie friendly. I'd like to see it done in the same vein as the Rings trilogy. That'd be cool.
As for this video game adaptation, I'm impartial since I've never played it and probably won't since it's a Micrsoft product, and I won't sucome to their corporate monoply tactics and buy into their game system. If the movie looks good and you guys give it your blessing then I'll go see it.

Oh man, Legend of Zelda done Lord of the Rings style would kick so much ass, it's a shame Nintendo isn't doing it. I agree, they would end up making it kiddie friendly and screw it up.
It'd be so awesome to see them adapt Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time if they even decide on doing a Zelda film though.

Metroid needs to happen, they could incorporate other bounty hunters into the film, like Metroid Prime 3 did so that way Samus has someone to interact with. I think that's why a first person shooter might be more difficult to adapt to film, since it's usually just you blasting stuff through different levels.

Gears of War is another video game franchise I'd like to see develop to the big screen.

The Halo movie hopefully will turn out good if they get the right people to make the flick.

Metroid was a great game/series but just don't think it deserves big screen treatment. I could defin' go for a Metal Gear movie, Gears of War Movie & God Of War.

I think one game has been overlooked for the bigscreen treatment. The Half-Life series has been tottaly overlooked. The game had a great story line and all. I understand you didn't get to hear the main character Gordan Freeman talk. But that could be worked into the movie.

There is some other games that could be made into movies if they where done right.

THANK YOU. Half Life neeeeeeds to be made into a film desperately. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Ed Norton as Gordon Freeman.

Halo, God of War, Gears of War, and Metal Gear also need to be fast tracked, along with Assassin's Creed. I'm also really looking forward to Prince of Persia.

Captain Morgan.

Buy a 360 used, and Bill Gates won't get any of your money. There's no sense cheating yourself out of great games to spite Microsoft, they won't notice. Besides, Sony and Nintendo are equally corrupt, and equally evil. Note that all three evil companies share equal evil space on my entertainment center.

Regardless find a friend who has a 360 and play some Halo and Gears of War.
