The change of location and plot line sucks. Forget this re-imagining, even if it has the georgous Beckinsale in it. I'll pass, and wait 'till it's on cable.
After a few weeks at the negotiating table (and on the rumor vine), Kate Beckinsale and Jessical Biel have been confirmed as the female leads for Columbia Pictures' revision of Total Recall. The trade and Collider are also reporting that Beckinsale's Underworld co-star Bill Nighy will also be boarding the production.
Beckinsale has been set to play Lori while Biel is jumping into the role of Melina. Nighy will tackle the role of resistance leader, Quatto. Colin Farrell has been attached for sometime to play lead character Douglas Quaid while Bryan Cranston is the villain. Ethan Hawke is also in for a cameo role. With production scheduled to begin Monday in Toronto, director Len Wiseman is leading the shoot from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback and James Vanderbilt.
Plot Concept: "Total Recall" is a new, con-temporized reimagining of the science fiction saga. Based on the short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick, this revision ditches the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai. Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn't know for which side.
Total Recall will hit theaters August 3, 2012.

Why change the setting, that was a integral part of the story, you could have updated it but still needed to be on another planet. This sucks i will rent it when it comes out.
I guess no chick with 3 boobs in this one (bummer!). Hopefully Biel and Beckinsale fight in skin tight spandex (hooray!)

Mars doesn't make sense to have, that was a part of the orginal movie that I hated, who would want to live there? It would make sense to be on a more inhabital planet.. just saying. It's Sci Fi you can go anywhere.

I am having a hard time understanding how this is even being called a Total Recall (movie) remake.
Why change the story? The setting was and is key.
