WONDER WOMAN Goes on NBC After All

In spite of reports from a few weeks back that all networks have passed on David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman TV show, reported on the weekend that NBC has reversed it's decision and picked up the show after all.

The initial "rejection" was more due to an executive shuffle at the net then an lack of interest. Now that entertainment president Bob Greenblatt has settled in, he went ahead and greenlit the show.

According to Deadline, "The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman -- aka Diana Prince -- is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life."

Box Office: GREEN HORNET #2

Green Hornet fell to the #2 spot at the box office, yielding some 46% of its audience to the week's only new opener No Strings Attached.  The film took in another $18 million bringing the domestic tally up to $63 million. Coupled with the movie's international box office, it should be strong enough to earn back it's production budget and be considered a modest hit for Sony and Seth Rogen.

The Razzies, celebrating the worst in the year's movies, has released the list of nominees for 2010.

Jonah Hex scored nominations in two categories which include a "Worst Actress" nod for Megan Fox and "Worst Screen Couple / Ensemble" nod for Fox and "Josh Brolin's face".

That oft-forgotten comic adaptation Marmaduke also scored a Razzie nomination for "Worst Supporting Actor", referring to George Lopez.

C2F Quick Hits

  • Matthew Vaughn chats up about X-Men First Class and continues to promise the James Bond vibe that no fan has been clamoring for.
  • We also have James McAvoy, who plays Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class talking to about the movie.
  • Via Twitter, the Hero Complex blog is circulating the rumor that True Blood actor Joe Manganiello is a frontrunner to star in Zack Snyder's Superman movie. That's a rumor that's made the rounds before and was partially refuted by the actor himself.

  • Actor Don Cheadle told MTV Splash Page that he doesn't expect War Machine to show up in Marvel's Avengers movie, but work on a stand-alone film for the character is proceeding. "They're developing it now, they're working on that," Cheadle told MTV News. "I think they've hired a writer, so we'll see how it goes. It would be a lot of fun."

  • Actor Chris Hemsworth had a bit to say about Avengers. MTV News caught him at Sundance where the actor revealed he's read an early draft of the screenplay. "it's incredible," he enthused. "Everything about the story in the comic books is huge. You have these huge, big superheroes and these huge, big egos kind of crammed into one small space. Reading the script, it was massive. I said to Joss [Whedon], 'I don't know how you're going to shoot this thing, but I'm excited to be onboard and let's give it a go.'" He was mum on details but admitted that in the comics Thor battles the Hulk frequently. He also commented on Jeremy Renner's alleged Thor cameo saying that Renner was never on the set when Hemsworth was there, and he hasn't seen a cut o the movie yet, so he has no idea if the rumors are true.

  • Captain Canuck creator Richard Comely tells Hero Complex that he is close to striking a deal with a Canadian production company to make a $15-million live-action version of the comic.

  • There's a new picture of Judge Dredd from the currently-filming movie online at Twitpic.

Goldman says KICK-ASS 2 Won't Follow FIRST CLASS

In the past, Mark Millar has been aggressively touting the Kick-Ass movie sequel. He even stated at one point that it was good to go and Matthew Vaughn would begin work on it right after X-Men: First Class wraps.

However, Vaughn's Kick-Ass collaborator Jane Goldman refuted such talk this week. Responding to a story in the Daily Mail, Goldman made a pair of tweets, first stating " Saw a few erroneous reports today that I'm currently writing Kick Ass 2 script – sorry if anyone's disappointed, but not true," and then adding, "Currently writing for 2 other projects, then on to lovely Matthew [Vaughn]'s next thing (right now, looks unlikely to be [Kick-Ass 2]) when X-Men post-prod' ends."

First Good Look at the Full SPIDER-MAN Costume

MTV Splash Page made waves on Friday by revealing the first good look at the complete, un-damaged Spider-Man costume in action. It features a look at the mask as well as details about the web-spinners.

CAPTAIN AMERICA Abandons His Country!

This was predictable. Marvel and it's overseas partners have anticipated that marketing a movie with "America" in the title might be a tough sell in certain markets. Therefore, when it screens in South Korea, Russia and the Ukraine Captain America: The First Avenger will simply be known as The First Avenger according to an exclusive report by Hero Complex.

Insides say that Marvel is relieved that the move only effects three markets

Beetles, Booster set for SMALLVILLE

Inside TV at has the scoop on two recent casting announcements for Smallville.

They were the first to reveal that Days of Our Lives actor Eric Martsolf will be playing time-travelling hero/celeb Booster Gold in the "Booster" episode.

That scooped was followed by the revelation that little-known Canadian actor Jaren Brandt Bartlett has been cast as Jaime Reyes flavor of Blue Beetle.

Over at TV Guide they added to the cast of the episode by revealing that the silver-age Blue Beetle, Ted Kord is also in the episode. He'll be played by 41 year-old actor Sebastian Spence, who you've seen in Battlestar Galactica. They also reveal that Geoff Johns is writing the episode.

This could represent a major break for Bartlett. Johns said repeatedly last year that he was very interested in getting a Blue Beetle TV show set up for DC Entertainment. Last summer we all got a look at a test reel that Johns and company had put together showing the Beetle scarab forming a suit of armor around an actor.

Add to that the fact that The CW is looking for something to fill the void that will be left behind when Smallville wraps and it's not hard to imagine the "Booster" episode being eyed as a backdoor pilot to a new DCU series on the net.

Thanks to AntoBlueberry for the submission.

The biggest news here this the Wonder Woman project.  I think it was AICN that also adds the lasso, bracelets AND PLANE are among the things included from the comic.  I had hoped the first two but the fanboy in me is itching to "see" the jet.   The last season of the original show was based in LA and changing her secret identity a bit is fine since she didn't even have one in Justice League.   I'm betting we'll have Steve Trevor and Etta Candy because the latter is such a Kelley character name but I'm betting she'll be of color...

Smallville- All the cool news seems break while this site is taking the weekend off.  Anyway, I highly approve of Johns adding Kord to the script but I'm worried it'll just be a knock off of the Brave and the Bold episode featuring both Beetles with Booster added. I also hope Booster's little robot sidekick appears...

Captain America- The governments of those three countries may have a problem with America but their citizens are American pop culture junkies.  Who's bright idea was this?

spiderhero 1/24/2011 7:41:54 AM

Not liking the full Spidey suit. I think they are trying too hard to complicate this movie. Too many characters, a costume that looks like modern art...I just don't know.

AFWICK14 1/24/2011 7:45:47 AM

WTF that is not Spiderman, tell me it is joke

Darkknight2280 1/24/2011 7:59:42 AM

Spiderman costume looks like like a douchy verison of a bob sled team uniform! This spriderman movie is going to fail before it starts!! RED EYES?!?! Suit Made of Rubber?!?!?! Goofy looking Color scheme?!?!?!

Changing the Captain America name is effing dumb. Especially for Russia and South Korea...We could have easily destroyed all of Russia and we helped South Korea from being taken over by the North and they cant handle having the name AMERICA in a movie..those countries can go EFFF themselves!!

cdauch36 1/24/2011 8:06:12 AM

i threw up in my mouth when i saw the spiderman looks really half beginning to love spiderman 3....seriously though how can a high school student make a costume like that? does lucious fox help spidey too? ughhhh

FilchX 1/24/2011 8:19:05 AM

Oh for Fraks sake...That SpiderMan Costume blows chunks. Can some one tell me why the reboted this? Spider man is like James Bond, put in a new actor and keep going you dont need this silly reboot shit. How many bond movies were there befor they "rebooted?" What a Frack'n Joke.

Here's hope to Marvel one day getting the Property back in there hands. Or God help us all.

lancedenier 1/24/2011 8:20:34 AM

Wonder Woman on NBC...  I'll watch it, but it won't last six episodes, and that sucks.  I hope it's edgy, not campy or played for laughs.  I'd love to see glimpses of the greater DC universe now and then too.

Joe Manganiello as Superman is alright by me.  I can't wait.

Mark Millar is a tool.  I'd still like to see Kick Ass 2.

Spiderman looks really bad, but the original suit was so rad it's hard to measure up.  Maybe it'll look better on screen/in post.

The First Avenger?  LAME!  Are they going to ship prints with the red white and blue removed from his costume and call him Captain Generic?  Suck it up Marvel and grow a set!  If they don't want Captain America, don't give it to them - AT ALL!

Beetle and Booster on Smallville?!?  Hell yeah!  I'd be up for either or both on their own show(s).

Wiseguy 1/24/2011 8:23:07 AM

I'm not really liking that "vigilante" quote about Wonder Woman. I won't start bashing it but I'm not feeling very optimistic about it. Still wish she had gotten the big screen treatment.

The prospect of Thor slugging it out with the Hulk in the Avengers film gives me goosebumps

As for Captain America's title change, Russia I can sort of understand not wanting or viewing America unfavorably, I don't care for them either but Ukraine and especially South Korea should be licking America's balls.

I wonder if Captain Canuck is going to have to change his title. And what exactly does Cpt. Canuck fight for, universal healthcare and high taxes?

I can see Manganiello as Superman even though I thought that Routh deserved a second chance although that wasn't happening if they're going with a new storyline

So Kick Ass 2 is in the offing even though the first was only a very modest hit at best. Guess that means that we're still under threat for Green Hornet sequel too

War Machine getting his own flick? I love everything Marvel but I  don't know if there's enough of an audience for WM and IM franchises.

jfdavis that wouldn't be a bad thing IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing a Blue Beetle series or Booster Gold for that matter. Though I'm sure they'd go for the new young Jamie Reyes BB, maybe even under Kord's tutelage. But you know they want the teen/young adult choice

And I agree with you Rob, who the hell is Vaughn trying to attract by giving the X-Men this James Bond vibe. That's the problem with giving a brit an American export, they want to anglicize it, bastards

gauleyboy is the only one that defends Spiderman 3 so not been sold on this one doesn't hold much water. Smile gauley :)

Geez, that Spider-man costume looks awful. But nobody asked me, lest of all the filmmakers.

Happy about Wonder Woman but not sure about the vigilante crimefighter part. Isn't she supposed to be the representative to Man's world from Themyscira? Everybody should know her public persona and she shouldn't be sculking around punching out street thugs like Batman. Have to wait and see.

Kraken89 1/24/2011 9:16:57 AM

The only thing I'm worried about with Joe Mangiello is his Clark Kent. Can he still look dorky, geeky, introverted nerd that no one would suspect to be Superman. Whoever Zack finally picks I trust.

Smallville, can't wait. I just hope they stop the bs'ing episodes, you know the ones that don't help to move the main season arc along, except those with guest heroes.

Wonder Woman got picked up by NBC....Suck it Bendis! (note: I still love Bendis).  I wonder if we'll get her new modern comic costume with the blue-ish/black-ish jacket and long tights?

Juddge Dredd looks really saturated and grunge like Blade Runner, awesome.

I don't have a big problem with the Spiderman stunt costume because it's a stunt costume.
