Mazzara leaving The Walking Dead

Who will take over next?

By Robert T. Trate     December 21, 2012
Source: The Wrap

First Frank Darabont left The Walking Dead. Now Glen Mazzara is leaving The Walking Dead. The Wrap is reporting that showrunner Glen Mazzara will finish out the third season of The Walking Dead and then move on to other projects.

AMC is reporting that this is a mutual decision between them and Mazzara.

The Wrap, who has a source close to the situation, is also reporting that it is "100 percent not about money or contracts. Rather, it is about a difference of opinion over where the show should go in the fourth season and beyond. It involves AMC, Mazzara and the show's writers and producers, who include Robert Kirkman, creator of the comics that provide the basis of the series”. Read the full news story here

So who will take over the fourth season? Will it be comic creator and series producer Robert Kirkman? Or better yet, will it be make effects artist and producer Greg Nicotero?

Okay, can we survive another change?  A problem with the direction of the next season?  Oh man...

Sure....mutual....is it me or it's always ''mutual'' yet never the truth??

This show is amazing. They keep firing some great talent and the show actually keeps getting better. If most shows kept firing the talent like this is would sink like a rock. I think it's a testament to the comic and how good it is. The story is already there, it tells itself.

It's always "mutual" so the show retains viewers and the showrunner can get another job.  Kurt Sutter and Shawn Ryan who both worked with Mazzara have both tweeted thier dislike for AMC and thier continued derailment of showrunner's plans.  I love AMC but this shit is getting repetitive and after an early ending to Breaking Bad and now The Walking Dead needing it's 3rd showrunner in as many seasons........My personal hope is for Gale Ann Hurd to take over, Kirkman is not really a tv guy and probably shouldn't be considered, but obviously his continued involvement is key to the success of this show so I hope AMC's decision is in consideration of that.

Regardless, as long as it continues to perform at the level it's at right now, I'll keep watching and supporting whoever is in charge.

As long as they don't boot Kirkman (and I can't see that happening), everything should be OK.  Of course I'm assuming he will be replaced by someone who knows what they are doing, and not with someone like, well, me.  :)

Why would it be better for a make-up effects guy to be the showrunner, that doesn't make sense to me.

Apparently they had different ideas on the direction of the show.

deadline posted the love note Kurt Sutter wrote in reference to this. AMC has been running off their show runners from big shows and when not they're having big fights over many things. The network is about to wrap up Breaking Bad and Mad Men, wonder how they're gonna fill those vacancies especially with the bad reputation they're getting. Guess there's always someone hungry enough at the end of the day

 Big mistake, Indy! Big mistake!!!

It is ALWAYS "creative differences".

Doesn't matter either way to me as long as the show remains enjoyable.  There is always someone capable of prouducing a zombie tv show.

I agree completely, millean! I'm all in as long as Robert Kirkman is still on board!

Yeah I'm pretty sure if Kirkman leaves, it'll be like that one kid in the neighborhood some people hated, but it was HIS ball we played with.

Kirkman: "That's it... I'm taking my zombies and going home!"

AMC Executives: "Wh-Wha...? ...Fine!"

Fans: "Dammit! Now see what you guys went and did?"

*Fans chase after Kirkman*

"Come back, Kirky! They didn't mean it!"

Remember Heroes?  i hope it doesn't end like that.
