Being Human: I Want You Back (From the Dead)

Love hurts.

This is a damn dark show. A show with a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf living in an apartment together sounds like the punch line to a joke rather than a melancholy drama but that’s exactly what we have here. This week Aiden’s past as a father haunts him as he watches the young boy he had hoped to befriend go down a really dark path due mostly to the interference of Aiden’s previous mistakes. Our werewolf and ghost both struggle to deal with love in their own unique lives with varying degrees of success. Is it melodrama? Yes but it is entertaining and often disturbing. This episode has been surprisingly effective with nice plot twists and this episode offers up a really good one by the closing credits. Why the vampires are so desperate to pull Aiden back into the family is still unclear and it needs to be made completely clear soon to make some of the constant plotting make sense. Overall this is a pretty emo episode and it works. Aiden chews the scenery just a little but that plays into the melodrama just fine.

I've actually enjoyed this series thus far.

I was skeptical at first to even watch it, but now I'm hooked.

It has just the right amount of teen angst without going overboard ala Vamp Diaries and Twilight.

I was holding my breath when clicking on your review Stephen....if it was anything less than an A I woulda....why I woulda.....ummmm well I dunno what i woulda done, but it wouldnt have been pretty.

I never watched the BBC version but I think SyFy really did an amazing job with this show.  The acting is incredible and the story is amazing....dark and emotional without joining in on the regular blah of todays cookie cut shows.  So from someone that watches the original version as well as this, how does it compare?  Are the stories similar enough that I shouldnt bother watching the British series in fear of ruining the story?

You really need to watch BBC's version (i.e., the original show), which is on Saturday nights.  It's in its 4th season.  Not to say Sci-Fi's version is bad by any means, just that the BBC version is better.

The stories on Sci-Fi's version are merely rip-offs of those, although with some exceptions (the bullied child's storyline being one) not done as well.  I also definitely think BBC's actors for all 3 main characters are superior, which definitely helps.  I just don't buy into Aiden's storyline as much in the Sci-Fi version because I don't buy his dark side; he just seems to be too nice of a guy, quite frankly.

Also, the special effects, especially when it comes to the werewolf, are not even in the same league - Sci-Fi went with the obviously CGI, four-legged b.s. look, while BBC went "man in suit" on two legs.  If you saw last Saturday's episode, you'd know what I mean.  Very scary sequence at the end of the show.

Agree the BBC version is so much better... the SYFY one is good but has that "been there, done that" feel. also the BBC actors are so much better!
