Ben Cross has been cast in the upcoming STAR TREK, reports the official website for the franchise. Cross will be portraying Sarek, the Vulcan father of Spock, while Winona Ryder will be playing Amanda Grayson, the human mother of the famed Enterprise vulcan. Cross will star alongside Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Winona Ryder, Rachel Nichols, Jennifer Morrison, Chris Hemsworth and Clifton Collins Jr.

Production began on the film earlier in the month and it's expected to hit theaters Christmas Day 2008.

Big thanks to Scooper Monkeyfoot for passing this along.

Bout time he got a semi-decent part again instead of the sci-fi channel flub-up of the week.

Anyone else getting a little weary of the daily Star Trek casting feed? It seems like an artificial attempt to keep the property in the news by rationing info. I can't see all these people having significant parts in a 2-hour movie. I don't think even the Harry Potter series did this. The TV shows had a big cast, but it's not like they all got to shine every week.

No I'm not, ReindeerFlotilla.

I'm not either. Keep the news coming. By the way perfect casting for this part.

I wonder if this picture means Sarek will be sword fighting in this movie because that would be cool.

Sword fighting WHILE chewing scenery with his bare teeth! Or maybe he could have BEAR teeth!

We are changing stuff around right?

I can't imagine that the cast will get much bigger. I think it will be hard enough to give everyone proper screen time with the ensamble cast they already have. I am excited for this. I was never a big fan of the original, but have always enjoyed TNG, DSN, and Voyager. I wonder if this is going to be like an Alias episode or MI:3 where they start in the middle, go back to the beginning and then proceed from there. It will be very cool to see. I have high hopes, thats for sure.

On a side note, I finally watched the Grind House movies today, and WOW,,,,,awesome,,,if you haven't seen them, watch 'em, they are great,,,in my own opnion.

No no no no....this guy looks NOTHING like the original Sarek! More horrible casting from this hack Abrams! Why not cast James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane while they're at it???

Now doesn't that sound ridiculous?

Oh, and Whiskeymovie, there is no doubt in my mind that Abrams will go the in medias res route with this film. He obviously loves the technique, but after having it used so many times in his previous projects I have grown tired of the device.

I'm Ok with Ben As Sarek but I still can't picture Winona as Amanda. I still think the time travel to the past reboot is a horrible idea. Even the most trek starved trekkies are going to gag on this one and finally kill the franchise.

Trollman, this isn't a reboot, or even a prequel. It's been described as a revitalization or reinvigoration of the franchise. The 2 highest grossing Trek movies were based on time travel (TVH and FC) That's why they went with this script idea and killed Jendrensen's idea, because it was something unconventional. I was nervous last year when it first became apparent they were doing the TOS cast when they were young, but the more I hear about it the more I like it. On a sidenote, if Cap. Pike is in it, and it shows the NCC1701 being built, Scott Bakula should appear as Archer, since he's supposed to die the day after NCC1701 is launched.

I don`t know about you fellas , but you put some makeup and pointy ears on this dude and in my opinion, he could definitely pass for Sarek. Also remember that , the pic up there is 11 years old. He has aged a little since then.
