Eh, they've already made the Ten Rings a Middle Eastern terrorist organization...wouldn't really make sense to me for The Mandarin to be Chinese.

Thi is a VERY good point!

BunyonSnipe 5/31/2012 1:12:03 AM

But I thought the Middle East was just ONE of the TEN RINGS, making it a worldwide organization...

SarcasticCaveman 5/31/2012 1:39:53 AM

I'm pretty sure the newsclip in the movie said they were a terrorist organization calling themselves The Ten Rings...would pull out my DVD, but I'm getting caught up on this season of Eureka right this

Finally some great news.  Marvel would be stupid not to go with this.  And use a story from the comics instead of a safe generic story.

But violator like I said before the Mandarin is half english. So why are you so hungup for an asian to play him

violator14 5/31/2012 8:52:56 AM

Oh is that what u meant wise? haha i thought u meant Kingsley was half english or something and i was like wth does that matter??.... Hmm, ok granted I didn't know that, so I guess I'll fold to this small debate and give Ben a pass to play the Mandarin. However I still would have preferred the Chow Chow mein Fat man! =)

For those of you are wondering how Kingsley came to be cast as "The Mandarin", I came across this transcript of the casting interview. It might shed some light:

Kevin Fiege: "Hello Ben, what can we do for you?"

Kingsley: "I want to play Mandarin in Iron Man 3."

Fiege: "Sorry man. Thanks for the opportunity, but No."

Kingsley: "No? NO?"

Fiege: "That's right, No."

Kingsley: "I don't do 'No'"

Fiege: "I'm just saying that we're going to turn this opportunity down."

Kingsley: "I think you need to turn this opportunity 'YES!'"

Feige: "We're not going to cast you as the Mandarin."

Kingsley: "You will!"

Fiege: "We won't!"

Kingsley: "You WILL!"

Fiege: "No!"

Kingsley: "YES!"

Fiege: "No!"

Kingsley: "YES!!! YES!!!"

The complete interview is quite long, but I'm sure you can find the unedited version online.

Ben Kingsley would make a great "Chuin" if they ever to a Remo Williams remake

Ben Kingsley is one of Mr. Downey's friends. I suspect he was approached for the part. Plus, Mr. Kingsley is one heck of an actor.
